you know i was trying to keep from pulling it , thanks

I have the same year truck with the same issue but my knocking ended up being in the catalytic converter. You might crawl under it with a hose to your ear and isolate where the noise is coming from. I have driven mine for over 50000 miles with no problems.

If you hear it knocking no bearing replacement is going to fix that long term. Its best to pull it, the crank shaft will have to be turned or polished and or replaced, weather its a rod or a maine, and posibly line boared if its a maine thats knocking. Do it right and pull it.

Where is the crankshaft located on 2002 s-10

Your crank shaft is located in the bottom of the engine.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3A3NfuUL7fg/UxNiHPNi2jI/AAAAAAAABtg/RvTpSDfbHjo/s1600/internal+combustion+engine+cutaway.jpg

This is a general cutaway of an engine, the crank shaft is the horizontal shaft at the bottom that the rods are connected to. It is literally the heart of the engine.

2005 Ford Escape 3 liter, V6, engine knocks while running and increases knocking under acceleration. Maintains power and doesn't miss. Sounds like bottom end or valve train.

Your main and rod bearings are worn and need to be replaced. Continuing to drive in this condition will only damage your engine further.

I have a 2004 Ford Explorer with a knocking sound coming from the engine. Was told I could be the timing chain. But it's not. What else could be making a loud knocking sound? Thanks.

If your truck has the 4.6 or 5.4 V8 then you know it has two timing chains. The lifters could be causing the knocking noise. If it sounds like it's coming from the top then I would suspect lifters. If it sounds like it's coming from the bottom of the engine then I would suspect main or rod bearings.

Engine knocks cold ok hot

if its at the top end its pistion slap
if its at the bottem end(of your engine) its a crank shaft bearing.

with out going into extream detail,

a ting sound at the top is a pistion slap.... replace all your pistions posibly over hual the engine.

a dubble knock that gose with rpm but sounds 2 knocks very every fireing of the pistion is a crank bearing..... replace your crank shaft bearings.... all of them b/c metal gose threw an engine extreamly fast and will destroy other beraings. this knock on start up will turn into a knock all the time, then a very louad knock that will end your engines life.

unfortunetly the answer is engine rebuild and fast.
