2003 Kia Sorento sometimes will start if you don't touch the foot pedal, sometimes will start if you just verily push down on pedal, then if you push down part way it will not start all is does is cranks. Then theirs times it won't start at all just cranks no matter what you due. Then let it set for awhile and it may start right back up. Scanner shows no codes, we were told by daeler it was a tps problem we replaced no help. We told in was a crank position sensor we replaced on help. We checked one of the coils shows 12v going in and we get spark at plug. We checked fuel pump when it won't start and we have fuel.
There is a black rubber button reset switch right next to the air box, press it sounds like the problem i had its a fuel pump reset (just in case of a wreck it kills the car) but there is a tiny ball in there and if it is rattled a little too much it will fall and you need to press the black looking button to reset it....took me like 4 months to figure it out
I was cleaning my 2006 Kia Sorento engine with a pressure washer, I must have hit this sensor causing the engine to not start. After a week I found your comment about the fuel pump reset switch located near the air filter. Once I pushed the reset switch the engine started right up. It saved me a lot of time and money! Thank you!

Same problem.Starts.touch gas pedal,no power-then dies.Sometimes restarts right away, other times it takes a while to start.R&R'd heads for bent valves.Has new timing belt which is on the money with it's timing marks. Also has new auto tensioner, waterpump ,tensioner pulley, idler pulley, spark plugs, crank sensor. All dealer parts except spark plugs, but are correct autolite double platinums..Again timing is on the money, fuel pressure within spec, firing order correct,& no codes.Did have a crank sensor code, after pulling it apart again for the millionth time-inspected the crank sensor signal wheel or plate & found no problem.Signal plate passes through crank sensor as it should,so it got a new dealer crank sensor.Same result.I've pulled everything I did apart several times to recheck my work & to make sure no wires were smashed or disconnected or grounds forgotten.Found nothing
I first want to thank everyone thats posted comments.
We are experincing the exact same problem and intend on trying the solution offered. i will report back the results.
