Transmission wont down shift to low gear in my 1991 buick park ave

Transmission range sensor , through electrical signals to the PCM ,it knows what gear the vehicle is in . Some all so call it a Park neutral switch , but it does more then that . The park neutral part of it won't allow the vehicle to start unless it is in park or neutral .

Then the transmission has failed.

The shifter needs to be inspected. The shifter assembly is got misaligned, it has to be open and realign.

There are many other possibilities. But if it was working right up till now and suddenly this occurred then its shifter assembly alignment issue.

if your engne rpm race upward when you apply gas but the car move slowly, you have transmission problem. I had this same problem when my transmission gone bad. you may need to have it services or low on transmission fluid. if not the low fluid problem, then you have transmission gears defect.

Check the transmission fluid level,check it in park,and see if it is low,it would have to be more than a qurt low to do this,but this would be the cause,or,the fluid and filter need to be changed,If this was helpful,please rate,thank you.

I would first check to see if you have the proper transmission level of fluid. From your discription, it seems that the fluid is low. If it is full, you have some more major issues. Hope this helps you, Rick

the transmission breaking apart but in a really slow way. There's not a thing that can be done to save it. It's going to someday give out. You can prolong it by not punching on the pedal to test it. just drive it normally and DON"T get the trans oil change. Just leave it alone... I own 89 P/Ave 156,000 original owner. Same thing happened to my car and picked up a used trans at junk yard and my mechanic installed it and runs like a baby at half the price(700.00). If you go to junk yards half of the park ave are because of trans. Good luck

The seals in the transmission In the clutch apply are hardened or have flipped over and cracked. A rebuild wil fix this.

I have a 1991 buick century that keeps stalling but starts right back up but know it wont start at all
