Can a alternator PULLEY make a chirping noise?

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT (5.9L) and it is still making a chirping noise that is very annoying. I just installed a new serpentine belt tensioner & a new belt. It stopped for a day but is back. Also during this annoying encounter, on a cold start before I replaced the above mentioned parts it would stall in the parking position. But after I replaced these parts it doesn't do that no more. Could the alternator be going out? Please help!

It's possible that the alternator is making the chirp noise (bearing) but I would try this first. Start the engine and allow the engine to idle and open the hood and take a spray can of WD40 and shoot a short burst onto the bottom side of the belt and pulley. Dont spray allot as this will cause the belt to slip. The WD40 is to lube the pulley grooves and belt a slight bit. Hope this works!

I have the same problem now, when my brother poured water on belt it stopped. of course it dries and it starts again so maybe the wd40 would be a good solution

Making a chirping noise while driving

Most chirping noises are due to bad pulleys on the motor. It's usuually an idler pulley or belt tensioner pulley. May also be the bearing in the alternator. Use a stethescope to check otherwise you can use a rubber hose. Put hose up to one ear and put other end by each pulley. Should hear high pitch chirping.

Have you checked the automatic tensioner? It sounds like your belt may be slipping, causing the alternator to not charge the battery as quickly as it needs to, which puts a lot of strain on a battery.

I would have the automatic tensioner checked and replaced, and install a new belt.

1999 dodge durango 5.9 v8 loud squealing noise from under hood replaced tenison pulley, idler pulley, ac pulley/clutch assembley, and belt please help

You didn't mention the alternator, power steering pump, or water pump. In fact, any pulley other than the crankshaft one can have a bad bearing or dry seal. Remove the belt and spin each pulley while listening for any rough noise or squeal. If it was the crankshaft, it might be time to check the oil. Start the engine with the belt off to see if it does squeal. Make sure the noise isn't coming from the radiator fan(s).

200 Dodge Durango Clutch Fan

The fan shroud needs to be removed. I think there is a clip where you can seperate the bottom portion of the fan shroud to the top. Once the shroud has been removed everything is a piece of cake.

Chirping, squealing noise from pulleys

check your pulleys. but if you have a Dayco belt on your truck, sometimes they're noisy. Its just the design. But they're good belts. But I would check the pulley on your water pump first, just in case of bearing wear. That's the best way to start.
