The car will start and run and then the same day or the next day; it will not start. And sometimes it will run for two days and then the third day it will not start or stay cranked up.
I have a 1984 Honda Accord that does well most days. About every 2 to 4 days it will start fine, then for a day or 2 it will not start, goodbattery, have replaced coil, plugs, wires, distributor, cap, rotor, fuel pump, and had to replace floats in carb. Starter fluid does not help, most of the time it happens after car has set over night, mainly when it is 45f or less, I put a 100w light under hood at night and that seems to help.I have a 1984 Honda Accord that does well most days. Give the battery a boost. If the car starts and stays running, chances are the alternator is ok. If the vehicle will not stay running, once boosted, there will be a charging system problem. Possible alternator. If the battery is more than 5 years old, it can also cause problems as the life expectancy of a battery is 5 yrs. Very doubtful you have a starter issue. I would bet on a battery or alternator/wiring issue
Many things can cause this problem...unfortunately the only proven way to remidy this situation is to have your car scanned by a reputable mechanic with a diagonstic machine $40-$80. This will tell what exactly is causing the check engine light to come on, in the long run its much cheaper replacing whats wrong than trying to replace things that arnt wrong.
Hey Guys! Had the same annoying problem. Cadillac dealer could find nothing wrong with it. Gave me a new battery. Took it to PepBoys and it died for them and immediately they found that it was the Crank Positon Sensor!! Part was $70 + labor. GOOD as NEW!!!!
