How do I know if my 98 cavalier needs new motor mounts and how $$

Mechanic told me I need new motor mounts and showed me this by opening the hood and pointing to the fact that my engine shakes. Also told that some of them have fused to the body..is this legit and if so was the 200 dollar quote a good one?

The motor mounts that go bad is mostly the top ones. You can get pick those up at Parts Source or Auto Zone and they can give instructions on how too's if you'ld like to try to change it your self. It should not take more then an hour and the shop rates vary from $65.00 to $85.00 per hour where you go. Best thing is to go to Auto Zone and price out the mount.
Oneway to make sure it's you mount's is to apply the brakes as hard as you can and put it in to drive or revers and see if you can fell a jump and then try it again with less perssure on the brakes too see if there is a difference no how the car lurches forward or back wards.
If you feel like there is a lurch with out the car moving then that's the engine jumpping and most likly your going to have to change the mount's. Good luck and hope this helps.

I do not know where the '98 Cavalier 2.2 L engine thermostat is

Open the hood and trace the upper radiator rubber hose to where it ends. That is where you should find the thermostat. If it is not there, it is apparent that the previous owner could have removed it for some reasons.
Notice how the thermostat was previously installed, and use that as a guide when you replace it back.

My 98 chrysler cirrus is lesking water and im told

First open the hood of your car and check where the leak is coming. Thermostat gasket is one source but
it could also come the radiator, radiator hose, or the
water pump. Check all these items, and you can do
the repairs by replacing the defective parts. Except for
water pump that really needs a mechanic to replace the
bearings and the mechanical shaft seal.

1998 Chevy Cavalier Z24 left rear brake/turn lamps will not work

Sometimes even a new bulb will not work. If you have a Digital Multi Meter you can check that you have power going to the rear. I know that sometimes when a vehicle loses a bulb in one end that it can make the other end stop working. With that said, I suggest that you double check to see that the front works. I used to own a 98 Cavalier RS with the 2.2 liter motor and I know that there are fuses under the hood and behind a little door on the drivers side in the car. Might check fuses under the hood also.

Motor mount replacement at 93000

Your best bet would be to pick up a Chilton manual from autozone. It will give you step by step instructions on how to do all kinds of things with your vehicle, including the motor mounts.

Engine mounts

Pretty easy fix.
1)Open the hood
2)Start van up
3)Put shifter into Drive with one foot on brake hard and one on Gas real light
4)Rev the motor, see if motor lifts and which side lifts
5)Put trans in Reverse,Step on Brake hard and rev the motor to see if engine lifts again
6)Mark on paper which side or both that lifts more than 3/4 " or so and it will tell you which motor mount or that both mounts are bad.Good thing to know so you dont get sandbagged by a disreputable Company or P
7) Jump on Craigslist on advertise that you are in need of a mechanic to change you motor mounts and you are willing to come up with a couple cases of beer for payment after the work is done..Shouldnt take more than 2 hours tops to do
