My daughter tried to shift from drive to park and the shifter stuck in nuetral. I have not been able to get the shifter to move from neutral to either park or drive. It's locked. Any suggestions.
Make sure the key is on and you are stepping on the brake pedal.

Thanks. After further inspection I found that the shift cable had come loose from the transmission shift arm underneath the car. The little plastic keeper had deteriorated and come apart and the shift cable came off. So even though the transmission was still in neutral the shifter inside the car was actually in the park position and unmovable. Once I put the transmission lever in neutral by hand and reattached the cable then the shifter worked properly with the key on and the brake depressed. I guess the shifter and the transmission shift arm have to be in sync for the shifter to moved out of the park position (along with key and brake). Now all I have to do is go find a keeper at a parts store. Thanks, again.
