Boiling brake fliud with continous braking when driving

1999 Ford Puma.
On a long jouney the brakes seem to be acting without any pressure on the pedal so they start to slow the car (or mean the engine has to work harder) leading to boiling brake fliud and engine over heating. Had this problem when first bought the car (and didn't know what was casing engine over heating) until one day brakes failed completely. Ford garage found ''problem'' with brakes and fixed - has worked fine for last 9 years. Had 100,000 service last week and garage replaced brake pads but also the brake pipes were corroded and replaced them. Now this problem has returned. Short journey are fine.

Have the repair shop check the clearance between the brake pad and the caliper, if it is to tight, the heat will cause the brake to be in contact with the caliper w/o any brake action.

Your calipers are hanging up and causing the brakes to drag and hence heat up.  Is your emergency brake working OK and releasing properly

Brakes

It could be your power steering pump not building pressure in your brake booster or your master cylinder which is where your fliud goes. Try flushing the system and check for leaks and restrictions

Next to no Brakes

No, but could be pad knock back which can be caused by run out of the rotors. This can happen if your pads have worn down too far in the past. I'd advise you to have the rotors ground (on the car) and new pads fitted. The fronts are critical but have the rears checked for run out too. Sometimes new seals in the calipers can help hold the pads against the rotors. This will improve the loss of pedal condition.

Ford transit 190, ok when starting but drive for

if it has rubber flexi brake hoses on the back there is a good chance the hose/s are collapsing inside which mean its pushing fliud through when braking but not releasing it

I have 1999 1.7 puma, the clutch seems to loose pressure when sitting in traffic with the clutch depressed is there a comon fault ?

It sound like the Master or slave cylinder seals could be leaking, if you pump the clutch does this help ??. I wouldn't worry about it being a common fault your car is nearly 11 years old and the brake and clutch fluid should be changed every two years as it becomes emulsified ( absorbs water) take it to your local garage they will be able to tell you more without driving your car and seeing the problem it's hard to say anymore

My 1999 chevy tracker 78k miles rear drivers side leaks a fliud and makes a light scrubbing noise brakes and drums were replaced it may have something to do with 4wheel drive axle i was told has anyone had...

Is the fliud a lite clear brown/tan (brake fliud) or is it a dark black colour (gear oil)? It sounds like you have a brake fluid leak. Check your steel line on the rear axle and then remove the wheel and drum and check the wheel cylinder. Top up your Master cylinder and bleed the brakes. You might find the light scrubbing noise gone.

Warning lights

You need to have your brakes inspected by a professional. The lights indicate that ABS and traction control are not working...although brakes will work without these features, a humming noise can indicate more problems to come.
