Pontiac 6000 STE Idels Rough

Hi,

I have an 86 Pontiac 6000 STE and it starts just fine and it idles kind of rough. It will die sometimes like going around a corner in a mall parking lot. The car has 100,000 miles on it and is extremly cared for! The car has the 2.8 MPFI.

Thanks!

Try cleaning the Idle Control Valve by removing the air cleaner duct work and buying carb cleaner and to the fuel side system there are two holes to the sides of the cylinder. Spray directly at these holes with the engine running at about 1200 rpms. Spray a good bit of it about 10 seconds. Then turn off the engine and let the cleaner soak. Repeat the process a few times. See if this works for you.
If not the idle position sensor may be bad. Get a trouble code at any Autozone or similar store for free.

Which way do I shift my 3L Toyota hiace fuel pump for a smoothe idle it starts fine but idels rough and moves off weak ?

Best to have codes read if the engine light is on. start up and rough idle are different. Rough idle can be different things. When is the last time you had a tune up?

My 1998 Volkswagen Beetle keeps dying.

With the car running rough it could cause the harsh shift but if it is staying at 5000 rpms then the ****** is about to go out on you. The rough idle sounds like a vacuum leak. If you can keep the car running at idle listen for a sucking type sound. That would indicate where the vacuum leak is.

I replaced the timing chain in a 2005 potiac sunfire with a 2.2 and now it run rough but runs fin going down the road but idling it run rough and sometimes will die

if the car ran fine befor you changed the timing chain you may have the cam timing off by one tooth retarted. Being the PCM controls the timing advance . The engine smooths out at higher speeds .Start back tracking and looking at the simple stuff . but you may have to pull the timing housing again to check the timing marks on the cam and the crank

1992 4runner idels rough sometimes

Check the intake hose to make sure that it doesn't have a whole in it also check the air box that the filter goes in also. Mine was idling rough also and we found a whole in the filter box and the intake hose had a whole in it. Hope this helps.

1986 Pontiac 6000 STE Idels Rough

Hello.
Look at your fuel injection system. There are certain companies that will clean your fuel injecton for you for about $125-145.00.
They will attach a bottle of cleaning solution over the engine and will keep the engine running for about 1-hour while the cleaning fluid courses through the engine. This cleaning system was developed by Snap On back in the early 1990's.
Hopefully, this will work.
Most Sincerely, Kristopher
