I washed the engine, then cruise control stopped functioning, before that rpm needle went mad and fluctuated from 0 to max on and off. I think there is a short circuit , but don't know where to find or start from. Fuses are OK. CAR: HYUNDAI grandeur 2000 (3 Ltr not xg) (cannot select this model for "What product is it about?")but cruise control is not company fitted , i been told.

Chk ur alternator. N battery then go to shop have ecm scanned if issue continues

check the map sensor. If you unplug it and notice no difference, then it is your maf sensor.

I will assume you've tested ALL the breakers with a VOM...

Is the check engine light on? Even if irs not i would still have the codes read. Sounds like a bad crank or cam sensor but it should set a light

I have the same problem with my 04 v6 awd vue.
The issue i see is with the transmission torque converter going in and out of lockup consistently. I have noticed when i engage cruise control this problem goes away for the most part. Today i turned on cruise at 30 miles per hour after noticing the rpm fluctuation about 400 rpm. change to only about 100 rpm. This has been an issue scene day one from the dealer. no codes, the transmission has not failed nor the torque converter. I think it is an issue with the drive by wire system. when you engage cruise control the foot throttle position sensor is out of the equation. This is my best guess, you can take it with a grain of salt.

It sounds like a failed 'idle air control.' Your computer may be monitoring engine conditions so having it scanned at one of the chain auto parts stores may identify the problem. The scanning is (in my experience) free of charge but call first to confirm this.

IMHO, I think that the broken cable is what is causing the problems. It "confuses" the programing of the CPU or computer.
