FYI if you remove the factory unit it will disable the cars starter and or fuel pump. The radio is tied into the security system. You shoud be able to get the wiring color codes here:
what color is the wire..it may be a memory lead..yellow or orange..some even have a power wire to the antenna so it will raise when the power is turned on..also may check the switches inside the unit that work with the eject part of the system..
old parts?
if you want to wire in something old, the post the name of that, and its full part/number, and model name. and year if the sticker shows that.
new infintant players.
does Hook up mean wire in a new head in to the dash?
or just plugging something in a the cars AUX jack.
we dont know.
well, this is how to check for a short ! hook a test light to negative post on battery, then hook other end to the neg, cable itself, . leave light hooked up, and remove negative cable from battery with light still hooked up to it. give the unhooked light and cable about 5 minutes. if light glows after neg, is disconnected from battery. you have a drain. to find it, leave light hooked up. start by pulling fuses when you pull a fuse and the light goes out youve found what circuit is causing the drain.
whatever color they are coming out of your car for example one set is green. choose a color coming out of your cd player to hook up to green. test that if the front left speaker works wrap masking tape around the green wires in car and label front left. do that until you have them all labeled and correct then hook them up according to what you learned. I know it sounds tedious and it is but it's the only way you can figure it out if they are not labeled.
do you have a test light?your speaker wires should be four sets of matching color,dark/light blue,dark/light green,dark/light purple and one other matching set of colors. then there should be one black wire which should be ground.with a test light you can find your power and accesory wires. your power wire will always have power with key on or off,the acc wire will only have power when key on. i hope this will help.
On many cars there is an exterior amp that the sound goes through before it is sent to the speakers. If the remote turn on wire isnt connected after you take your previous cd player out then the amp wont know when to turn on and therefore no sound will come from your speakers although your cd player is doing its job.
I cant really assist in this matter but I can let you know that I have a system in my 2006 Chevy Cobalt and that I have an aftermarket cd player installed. I had to pay $130 for a special adapter for it to be wired into the system because GM's newest idea of installing the stereo and airbags on the same wire scheme, is kind of a dumb idea.
its pretty simple, the remote wire is used to tell the amplifier that the cd player has came on. once the cd player has came on, the amp then comes on. simply take a light tester that has a sharp tip, turn the ignition until the cd player comes on, and start testing all of the wires. when you hit a wire in which the light tester says there is power flowing through it, turn the cd player off. if the light goes off with the cd player, you have found a wire that is suitable for a remote wire. dont know how to use a light tester? http://www.bcae1.com/testlite.htm
