2008 sable premier brake lights will come on after the car is turned off even if they are off, they sometimes just come back on. Sometimes you have to hit the brakes a number of times to get the brake lights off too.

SOURCE: My brake lights won't turn off. even when vehicle

Sounds like either your brake pedal switch has somehow gotten misaligned or gone bad. Look at the top of the brake pedal and find the switch. When you push in on the brake pedal the upper part of the pedal should contact a movable button on the switch and move it either in or out (depending on which side of the pedal the switch is on). If you can see the switch contact being moved, and the lights still stay on, it sounds like the switch itself is bad.

SOURCE: 2002 Mercury Sable-shakes with acceleration

You describe this as an acceleration problem however, if the car does throw a check engine light it should be recorded in system memory so it can be pulled by scanning with and OBDII scanner. It sounds as if the car is being starved for fuel on acceleration. Check the fuel lines for kinks as well as check the fuel pressure. The problem could be a faulty fuel pump that has yet to completely die.

SOURCE: Rear brake lights remain on.

just simply unplug connector from brake switch located at base of brake pedal, if lights go out switch is bad, if lights do not go out you have a short to power on brake lamp circut before turn signal switch

2001 Mercury Sable rear brake lights and turn issue?

The same relay won't be doing the turn signals and the brake lights. The most obvious thing apart from bulbs is the brake light switch, which is easy to test with a multimeter.

2005 mercury sable.. just won't start or turn over at all, lights locks and power Windows all work, but even jumping it off Did nothing..

Sounds like a brake or transmission interlock switch problem. The transmission has to be in park (and sometimes a foot on the brake pedal) for some cars to start. If a switch is defective, the starter won't engage.

2008 Kia Optima turn signals/brake light won't always work

This is probably a bad earth connection, Try checking the connection to the rear light cluster for corrosion around the wiring plug, remove it and clean the connections, also check the bulb fittings, clean and replace bulbs into the holder. This is normally where the problem is, and could be due to water getting into the rear lights, good to check for this too.

1999 Sable wagon - the dash and rear lights don't work. Brake lights and headlights are fine. Any ideas?

This can happen when the wires to the lights come loose. If you know someone who can get in the back and check the wiring, and can hook them back up, that's probably all it is. Sometimes items in the trunk, or the back of an SUV, or just hard road bumps can shake the connections loose.

1999 Mercury Sable Dome Light won't shut off

Next to the headlight switch is a dimmer dial for the interior dash lights... if you turn it all the way up, the interior lights remain on... there is a "detent" on the dimmer. turn the interior dash lights all the way full on ...you'll feel the detent, then turn it down back past the detent a little bit...that should cancel the interior courtesy lights... wait a bit because the interior lights are sometimes on delay timers....
good luck let me know what happens.

All the fuses look good, but the brake lights won't work. what else should I check?

Check the brake light switch and plug. It is mounted under the dash on the brake pedal or a bracket where the brake pedal hits the switch, sometimes the wires will short or come out of the plug and sometimes the switch will go out.
