Chevy lumina starts then stalls

On electronic fuel injection pumping an pumping an pumping the gas pedal does nothing without the engine running ! Pushing the gas pedal to the floor will cause the PCM - engine computer to go into clear flood mode .

You have some very interesting ideas here , but not really how it works or is !

The vehicle will go into closed loop fuel control when the engine coolant temp reaches a definded temp an the O2 sensor get hot.

She would run for a couple minutes and die which is open loop when running, closed loop is when the sensors kick and it would die. Pulled spark plugs, they were black meaning no spark. Can only be 2

Black spark plugs indecate a rich condition , over fueled , wet spark plugs indecate no spark .

Check for spark at the plugs and fuel pressure at the fuel rail. This will narrow down our suspects. Then let me know. If you need to know how to do these just ask. Thanks

check to make sure the power brake booster is not leaking, do this by starting the van and just let it idle in park and push the brake pedal if the engine stalls or surges or you hear a sucking noise under the dash then replace the power brake booster if there is none of these systems then replace the idle control motor. GOOD LUCK

tuneup the engine. replace plugs, wires, oxygen sensor last. put fresh gas in and cruise on the highway.

Stalling and running rich. I have seen this before on a Camero. The fuel pump was weak. Not making enough pressure. This caused the fuel injector to DRIP gas instead of SPRAY gas. This caused the fuel to flow into the cylinder in a liquid form, and it did not burn well. We put in a new fuel pump and the car came to life. Good luck.

here are some signs of a bad fuel pressure regulator: the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start(usually in morning) MANY TIMES ENGINE STARTS BUT STALLS SHORTLY AFTER STARTING. a bad regulator can result in fouled spark plus, and fuel milage will decrease noticeably. the only cure is to replace regulator. what makes it fail usually it gets a tear in the diafram and it cant maintain fuel pressure. hope this helps toolman,

Free things to try: Take it to Auto Zone or some auto parts store and they can check the battery, alternator, and hook the thing to their computer to look for trouble codes for you.

Things you have to pay for: Take it to the auto shop and have them check the timing, spark plugs, and they can translate the trouble codes into language you understand.

it sounds like you need to inspect your spark plug wires and spark plugs. if they are ok it could be your coil

My 93 Lumina did the same thing and a simple tune up solved the problem. For whatever reason, the rear middle plug wire goes bad before the others.

Have you tried changing the fuel filter? thats the cheapest and first repair i would do, Hope this helps
