Not getting diagnostics info from the diagnostics plug

Plugged scanner into diagnostic plug and did not get any info. I was told to replace the cigaret lighter fuse. Fuse is good and so are all the other ones and plug still does not work. I checked the voltage on the power wires and only got 4 volts.

Have it fixed by an expert. He needs to have a relay added in. Once you explain he will know what to do and where to fix it.

Hesitation and sputtering

You have a 4.6 single overhead cam engine in your 93 tw as that is what mine has but as you were told it is probably the catalatic converters getting plugged up with that many miles miles on her it wouldnt be surprised and as far as as the how to read diagnostic codes Auto Zone sells a scanner to do that for around 300.00 I wasnt impressed with the scanner so i returned it and got my money back then went on E-Bay and bought a Snap-On 2500 series scanner and bought the cartridge for it and read all the codes it was giving it then proceeded to fix my 93 tc ...problem was not the same as your tho letting you knopw where i bought my scanner so maybe you can too ...FYI.... the ABS brakes have a seperate hook-up that a regular scanner wont read another reason i returned the auto Zone scanner , this older snap-on will read both sets of diagnostic and there is one more item that uses its own diagnostics and that is the A/C controller you will find all infomation on how to obtain any codes to help repair it ....Sorry this is so long but i belive this info will help a lot of people owning lincolns and grand marquies and Crown vics with ATC or EATC..

2002 Porsche carrera 911 Engine light on and knocking noise

This is not good. Do not run the engine until after someone hooks a scanner to the computer plug and runs the diagnostic.

You can buy an adequate scanner for about $100. You can instead have it towed to someone with a scanner with part of that $100. Use your Autoclub if you have one.

Do not start the car or run the motor. The scanner plug has all the info you need to start diagnosing the problem.

98 taurus started ran a bit then died now wont start

If that is your only transportation you need to call other repair shops. Find out about towing fees and what diagnostic fees they have.

Before there were diagnostic scanners, there were Mechanics. Scanners come in all types and some will suggest possible solutions and others are tools which Mechanics use to find problems.

For instance, you are told you have fuel pressure. You are told they installed new spark-plugs. You were not told if the spark-plugs are getting electricity to fire. You were not told if the fuel injectors are getting electricity to allow gas to reach the cylinders. You can have fuel pressure but the fuel injectors must open to put gas into the engine.

A noid tester or plain testing light will show if the injectors are opening. A spray of starting fluid will also indicate if the engine is not getting fuel despite fuel pressure. It will try to run with starting fluid if it has spark.

When you find out whether it runs, if not, then check for spark if the starting fluid does not make a difference.

It is questionable whether new spark plugs were needed if installing them had no effect. Check other service places.

Will not stay running

a compression check should be done to make sure that it is not a compression issue, also you can plug in a node light in place of the injector to see if the ECU is firing it off, then check for spark at the plug,

there is very little you can do by pulling out the ECU, most of the diagnostic work on the ECU is done through the OBDII port using a scanner,

hope this helps

Hi, Not sure where to find the diagnostic plug/Connector in my '95 Hyundai Excel lx 5dr. I've been told you can connect a paper clip into this plug and it will give you a engine code through the check...

It is under the dash on the drivers side, and yes there are certain pins that if shorted will start quick test and give the codes stored in the PCM
