Power steering belt snapped.I have a diagram on the belt path around the steering pump etc, just need someone explain what I need to do to ease the tension so I can put on the new power steering belt?

I am not familiar with the set up on the Magna for tensioning the serpentine belt. Normally there is a tensioner pulley fitted to the engine which has to be moved a little by applying opposite pressure with a tube spanner or ring spanner to release tension on the belt so it may be slipped off and then moved back into position again when refitting. That is probably what you have also.

I suggest you check with the guys on the Magna owners Forum in the link below. They will be able to tell you what to do on that Mitsubishi Magna engine. Indicate when asking which engine you have fitted in your car.

I have issues with belt squealing on Suzuki swift. The car is a 2005 (new model) 1.3 petrol. Just before Christmas the original 9 year old belt started to squeal and snapped, I replaced the belt and s

belts squeal for only 2 reason
it's bad. the belt.
or the accessorym it drives is Seized.

i guess you never head of a 5buck stethoscope
and listen to the accessory bearings, ah, alternator front and rear
i hear, front crying for help. easy as child play.
sold everywhere cars parts are sold.

there is no need to guess, , answer use tools.
this was true in 1920 and now, belts then and now all can squeal.
in the old days we had many belts and could drop them
then comes, SERP belts. one for all.
we dont have 1.3 swifts here, so cant see belt routing.

Remove the belt and check those parts. Spin them by hand The alternator should spin freely. The PS pump will have more drag on it. Also check the tensioner and idler pulleys. When turning them Feel for roughness. All these should be smooth turning. No bumps or grinding. One of them is going to be tight or rough. The PS pump will move in and out a bit, this is normal.

The battery light came on at that point i was unable to turn the steering wheel

your car is fitted with PAS (power steering) when your engine is not running, the power steering pump will not function, thus making the steering heavy (feels like you cant move it, but you actually can, its just very very stiff and hard) when the battery light came on, and the steering went off, this is a sign that your ALTERNATOR (the battery charger) and POWER STEERING PUMP are on the same BELT, thus if the belt snaps, the light comes on and the steering gets heavy/stuck/hard.

You need to fit a new alternator belt as yours has more than likely snapped (common for all cars) and unless a new belt is fitted, you battery will go flat after a while too, as the alternator is the batteries power source (charger) when the engine is running! however the car will still drive/run, but i wouldnt advice it, as this will soon shorten the batteries power.

If you dont know how to fix it, you need to go to a garage/mechanic and tell them you need: A NEW ALTERNATOR BELT FITTING (they will charge for this service) this should then solve your problem!!

My car is hard to steer the power steering went out

hi from the uk thr reason your power steering has gone is most probably the pumps drive belt has snapped or the power steering oil has leaked from somewhere ? open the hood and investigate power steer oil level and whether belt is snapped it may be still in engine bay ? it is a simple job to fit new belt and can be purchased at most good auto supermarkets/stores and if you charm the guy at store he may also fit it too ? best wishes from n/west uk

Power steering stopped working and the battery light came on but it still runs,

It is a safe bet the serpantine belt that drives the power steering and alternator has snapped, open the hood and check, there should be a belt about an inch wide or so running round the pulleys, if you can see a bunch of polished rings across the pulleys then the belts gone, you need a special tool or a decent toolbox to fit a new one, it often also runs the water pump so dont drive far.

A belt snapped, leaked antifreeze and no power steering

If it was the timing belt, the car would have quit right then and there.
It's the belt that drives the fan, water pump and power steering.
Probably what they call the serpintine belt.

Fan belt 1997 mazda 323

first of all you need to find the power steering adjuster you will find this beside power steering pump there is a locking nut on pulley slacken that then slacken off adjusters once you have done that you will be able to remove belt same applies for slackening alt belt make sure you slacken of locking bolt otherwise you will bend adjuster bolt.hope this helps you.
