SOURCE: rear wheel bearing

Well, you picked a beauty to fix. I don't think that either a 2 or 4 wheel drive will make a difference. The biggest problem is that after you remove the axle from the car you need a special bearing removal tool, and a slide hammer to remove the bearing from the axle. Then you need a special bearing installation tool and a universal driver handle to install the new axle shaft bearing. And last, you need a axle pinion oil seal installation tool to install the oil seal. If you are not a skilled mechanic, I would suggest that you find a local reputable mechanic and let him do this repair for you.

Humming noise coming from vehicle over 30mph

At 100,000 miles, you are driving on bad wheel bearings. They are not too bad to replace, it is a wheel bearing assembly. Bolts on . You will need to remove the spindle nuts, the brakes and rotors, and unplug your abs cable from under the hood. It should take about 1 hour per side if you haven't done it before, and the bearings should be around $120.00 each.

ABS

Are you ready for this?? It could be a brake shoe hanging up on one wheel, activating it. It could also be a front wheel bearing going out. They start to drag and will also activate ABS and the traction control. Check front bearings first if you have more than 100,000 miles on the vehicle with original bearings.

I meant is the wheel bearing that is going out on my Bravada going to be safe enough to drive the remaining 1800 miles of my trip, before replacing?

I don't know it could be dicey ,,iv'e seen wheels fall off due to worn bearing,,it all depends how bad it is ,,,

Front wheel noise when driving. Louder the faster you go.

Raise the vehicle until one wheel is off the ground. Grab wheel by sides and wiggle - if it moves, you may have a bad wheel bearing. Also try rolling the wheel and listen closely - you should hear and feel a crunching or grinding noise which would confirm the wheel bearing. Lower vehicle and check the other side. Many newer vehicles have the bearing as part of the hub, requiring the replacement of the hub assembly to fix the bad bearing. Most others require a press to change out the bearing. It may be worthwhile to take it to a shop right away for a hands on diagnostic. Be careful driving it - the wheel bearing could potentially cause the wheel assembly to fall of the vehicle, injuring or killing yourself or others!!!

Humming noise right front, would this be a wheel bearing

Hi,

Its a good possibilty,The Bearing will humm ,if no grease in them or very little. I would Stop driving it to save some money cause if its a wheel bearing, it will only get worse and its 1st of all not SAFE,2nd The bearing will also damage your Hub and Spindle, and any other front end parts that heat from the bearing will Damage,Like your Front Brake Rotor and Brake Pads. So .Pull off that wheel and Check it out,You'll have to Pull Caliper and Rotors as Well.

Many times if one side goes out (Wheel Bearing) normally not long before both==I recommend you Change out Wheel Bearings and Bearing Races On BOTH sides.

Hope i have Explained well enough to you. Please let me Know by Voting on The Quality of My Answer and Solutions.

Hi , I just bought a 97 toy corolla 130,000 miles automatic and the drivetrain seems very loud especially on the highway. The transmission shifts fine, the fluid level is ok,the engine runs strong. Is there...

If the transmission has ever been low on fluid it could have ruined the differential. This will make a whining sound going down the road. You could have wheel bearings going out as well. You can check those by getting up to the speed in which the noise is clearly audible, then swerve the car back and forth. Obviously we're not trying to crash the vehicle so you don't have to be overly aggressive here, just back and forth. If the sound changes pitch or goes away then it's a wheel bearing.

97 ford explorer awd bad right front cv joint

Yes you can, If you have taken the front drive shaft off, you can even still drive with the CV joint in place till you want to remove it. You may get some vibration around corners till you replace the CV joint or remove it totally.
But if your going to remove it, might as well wait till you have the replacement so you only do the job once. I had a Bad CV joint on a AWD Chevy van and did the same thing so i could still use it, and then replaced the CV joint when the weather got better.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Noise from the rear of my 97 crv when turning left and right

Hi

Sounds more a rear wheel bearing problem ?

Check for excessive play, and noise from both rear wheel bearings and hubs, with the vehicle jacked up and supported safely.

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be nice...Thanks... John.
