Hi. A few days ago the vehicle wouldn't shut off, mechanic advised me to pull fuse 18 under the hood (this occured before when he had it). That worked. It shut off fine once I got it home, but I immediately tried to restart it and it wouldn't. The next day the car was totally dead (new battery replaced 1/09), tried to jump it. Int. lights on but wouldn't turn over. Removed battery to have it recharged. Still won't turn over, but everything else seems strong (lights, stereo, etc.) I hear a 1 click when key is turned, and a slight constant buzz coming from the fuse box under the hood, noise stops when fuse 18 is removed. Also the park light on the gear shift won't go out now even when the key is removed. In the past 45 days I've replaced O2 Sensors & (2) ignition coils, cleanned throttle boddy and mass airflow sensor. Possibly immobiliser, starter? Please Help!
Check if your transmission really is in park. I once had the same problem and it was fixed by moving the stick in and out of the park stand for a couple of times. Then the red light illuminating the "P" came on and i could start again.
Has to do with the transmission cable that tends to get a bit loose.

On the 2001 jaguar under the hood in that fuse box the no. 4 fuse is to the horn relay it is a blue 15 amp fuse if this is not the one inside parssenger comp. the no. 28 fuse is to the security system horn relay hope this will help you on my 2001 fuse box is on passenger side
To try to help I need to know a few things . 1) when you say you went over everything under the hood did that include checking all main fuses ? Checking for fuel and or fuel pressure and checking for spark ? 2) when trying to start car are all dashboard lights coming on? Pleases repost as I will advise to help find the issue
Just a couple problems I've had. dome light left on due to faulty door open switch, spot light charger or equipment left plugged or wired to battery, lately I thought I had a bad battery but I just need to clean the terminal connections. One more thing if your car is running you can pull the negative cable off the battery. If the car dies your alternator could be the problem. If you have a light in the trunk or under the hood you could pull the bulb out to make sure you don't have a faulty switch turning them on. These are kind of simple and that is the way I start out.
many things will cause no start problems could have faulty ignition switch.use test light see if power going to starter if not check ignition fuse to starter.if power going to starter, more likely starter solenoid or starter faulty.if ignition fuse okay and starter and solenoid okay still no start problem could be in the ignition switch or inhibitor switch faulty.code scan for faulty theft security system which will also cause no start conditions.
It could be as simple as a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter to something more in depth like a broken timing chain or bad sensors. Check the Fuses first to make sure they are all good then check the relays under the hood. If the fuses are good and the relays then spray some starting fluid into the air intake, If it fires then the problem is a fuel pump or filter if it doesn't you are going to have to test the Crank and cam position sensors to find the bad on and the coil pack.
It is posible that the extra boost has blown the ignition fuse. Look under the dash on the left or right hand drivers side and find the fuse box. On the outer cover should be a diagram of the fuses installed. Look for ignition. If you don't have a daigrm then start pulling fuses one at a time and checking the wire in the fuse to see if it has seperated, (Melted), and replace it. There may be more then one fuse that burnt so check them all and replace them back in the same spot. This is why i say one at a time. Some vehicles have an ignition fuse under the hood as well. If you can't find the fuse in the car then look out under the hood. Some of these fuses under the hood will be larger but should have a window to look in and check for damage. Let me say this first before you go fuse hunting. When trying to start does it turn over good and fast. If it is a sluggish turn over then recheck the battery termanals to be sure they are tight and cleaned of all corrosion. You should not be able to twist the cable end with your hand. Make sure you put in at least 5 gallons of gas and that the car is on a flat surface while trying to start it. Cycle the key from off to run (but dont start) in ten second intervals, this will prime the fuel system. Also check your fuse box for a blown fuel pump relay. Since the vehicle was run dry it is also a good idea to replace your fuel filter.
You need to check if some accessory is drawing power when the car is not running.
About any inexpensive digital multimeter will have a 10 Amp unswitched range.
You would need to detach the negative (ground) cable from the battery and put the meter in series with the leads plugged into it to access that range.
- Do NOT turn on anything while so connected! It will fry the meter.
Normally, there will be a very small amount of current flowing even with everything 'off.' This is normal as there are things still 'on' even though the car isn't running; the ECU will draw a tiny bit, your radio will too and any kind of clock that keeps time will also draw some current.
If you find anything over 1 ampere, you have a problem which must be found as this will drain any normal battery over a two-day period.
One item may have a failed part and cause this; your alternator.
It has semiconductor parts in it (normally 6) called diodes and if one has been slightly damaged, it can draw current from the battery with the engine off and not light the warning light on the dashboard.
