I have a 2003 Kia Sedona. I am replacing the starter. I had to fight like crazy to get the heat shield off that is around it, now I am having a hard time getting it back on. Can anyone tell me if the heat shield is absolutely needed? If so, is there a trick to getting it back on? I removed the bolts from the exhaust pipe and dropped it down a little, but there still isn't a whole lot of wiggle room.

The heat shield is there to allow air to flow around the starter to prevent the heat from the exhaust burning the wires in the starter motor. Mostly it will be a engineering fix because they didn't calculate the problems with hot starters during the design process. I am afraid that you are stuck with the fitting and space problems and now you probably know why it costs so much to have it done in a shop

SOURCE: 1998 kia sportage, how to replace the starter?

1. you have to remove the possitive on the battery.
2. lift the truck on the passenger side. (remember to use jack stands for security)
3. remove the wires going to the starter. (there should be 2 wires.)
a) a thick wire, thats the possitive.
b) a thin wire thats the starter signal from ignition switch.
4.remove the bolts holding the starter, you should see them they are the only ones touching the starter base.
5.you can sheck if yours is good at anu(advance discount auto parts).
6.do the same steps from four to one to install the new starter.

Drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump. Filter is attached to the fuel pump. Sounds like the fuel pump is failing.

Can a 2002 ac compressor go on to a 2003 kia sedona?

As long as they have the same part number there should be no issue. Sometimes the same part is used for four or five years consecutively. Check the part number and appearance.

Where is the starter located

Hi, the Kia Sedona starter (and all other major parts) are the same from 2000 to 2005. Here is a link with your starter location and how to remove it:

How do you change a starter on a 2005 Kia Sedona?

On the 2.9litre diesel I found that 2 of the bolts holding the starter could be reached from underneath( after jacking up and putting on ramps or axle stands both sides) the third was only accessed from the top and i had to loosen the bracket for the gear linkage cables as it prevented getting a socket on the head of the bolt. once the 4 bolts(12mm) were removed it was easy. I found on ebay a repair kit which replaces the piston and contacts which on mine were badly eroded(just as site said) and replacing those cost under £15 (about $25?) A reconditioned starter would have cost at least £175. The instructions for replacing the plunger and contacts were excellent and changing them took under 20 minutes.

How to replace starter motor on 04 kia sedona

Disconnect the positive battery terminal. You'll need to remove the 3 bolts holding on the heat sheild to the starter, also remove the lower heat sheild on the exhaust manifold. You'll need diconnect to 2 wires attached to the starter and unbolt the 2 bolts holding the starter to the transmission/engine.
