I can't help with the chimes, but as far as the awful smell, try changing the cabin air filter. It's under the hood on the passenger side. Close to the wipers up near the firewall is a rectangle cover about an inch thick and about 12-15" long. Inside is a filter. It's very easy to remove and replace, and this fixed the funky smell in my van immediately.

Strong gas fumes coming from 2001 windstar

The "cause" would be a fuel system or EVAP system leak. If the fumes are that strong, then I would take the vehicle back to Ford again and make the sevice manager stick his nose in it and then tell you there is no problem....

My 2001 Ford Windstar van seems to be using alot of coolant daily

Possible coolant leak on hot engine parts causing it to evaporate as it leaks. That would definitely invade the cabin air. You would need to carefully check under the hood with the engine warmed up and running.

Also could be a headgasket failure between coolant channels and a combustion chamber. This latter problem sometimes shows itself as vapor at the tailpipe after there should be no more visible. You may also detect the odor of coolant there too.

My 2001 ford windstar lx van smells like coolant when i drive

Several things to check. Have the cooling system pressure checked. A quick and simple test. Puts system under pressure and helps to locate a leak. The coolant doesn't just go away, it's got to be leaking either externally or internally. Be sure that the radiator cap is checked too. It needs to maintain the proper pressure for the system
Sound like coolant is leaking on the exhaust system. This can result in the smell and you will not see a leak as it is evaporating when it hits the hot pipes.
Good Luck

If there is white smoke coming out of tail pipe, the head gasket is blown. needs to be replaced.
