Possible causes
- Check engine oil level and pressure
- Faulty VTEC Solenoid Valve

How to get trouble codes

Many 1995 Buick Regals have the newer OBDII (On Board Diagnostic version 2) computer. To obtain fault "codes" saved by it, it requires connection to an OBDII scanner. If you have the older pre-OBDII (let's call it OBDI) you don't need a scanner. Read on..

Beginning in 1994, vehicles were transitioning from the older OBDI computer and by a 1996 - nearly all were OBDII. The nice thing about OBDI, was that with a simple paper clip, you could get the OBDI computer to display the code as flashes of the Check Engine light on the dash. No special scanner required. This was more of a benefit in the early years of OBDII - now you can drive to any Autozone (and many other auto parts store) and they will scan the OBDII computer for you at no cost. They can also tell you what the "code" actually means so that you will know why the indicator is on - and just maybe - even how to fix it, too.

If you've been told you have / you're sure you've got an OBDI computer, here's what to do: find the terminal jack - usually under the dash - below the steering wheel. The pinouts for 1995 GMC's are below. You're going to be connecting terminal "B" to "A" (the top RIGHT most two terminals). Check the video on the other side of this picture for full details.

Here's a Youtube video that shows how it's done on a Saturn. It's the same for your Buick Regal - with an OBDI terminal. It will NOT work for an OBDII terminal.

Why is my OBDII not picking up codes for my ABS light coming off and on?

OBDII is strictly for engine management. The ABS uses it's own computer. You will need a higher end multi-function scan tool or an ABS specific scan tool to pull ABS codes and /or data.

I took for a smog check and the guy plugged in his computer and said it wouldnt read it

europeon import software no doubt,no europeon vehicle or very few can be read via the OBDII your inspector should put a probe up the exhaust to measure the emmisions not plug into the OBDII as connecting up to certain cars with a code reader will render the vehicle in a non start immobilised state that only a dealer can sort out as this is deemed to be illegal access to the OBDII where someone could be trying to by-pass the immobilisor via the OBDII .

This is what I do, first is to connect my OBDII reader, pull ashtray out, on right side of ashtray, slide front panel out, connect OBDII reader, turn ignition to on, do not start, press read on OBDII, should be able to establish communication. If not then probably connection is bad somewhere from connector to the Digifant Control Unit (brain), there is no fuse in between.

NEED DRIVE CYCLE FOR 2004 CRV TO RESET CAT AND O2 MONOTOR

Here is the info

NOTE: The ignition key must not be on prior to the cold start otherwise the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.

1. As soon as the engine starts, idle the engine in drive for two and a half minutes with the A/C and rear defrost on. OBDII checks oxygen sensor heater circuits, air pump and EVAP purge.

2. Turn the A/C and rear defrost off, and accelerate to 55 mph at half throttle. OBDII checks for ignition misfire, fuel trim and canister purge.

3. Hold at a steady state speed of 55 mph for three minutes.

OBDII monitors EGR, air pump, O2 sensors and canister purge.

4. Decelerate (coast down) to 20 mph without braking or depressing the clutch. OBDII checks EGR and purge functions.

5. Accelerate back to 55 to 60 mph at half throttle. OBDII checks misfire, fuel trim and purge again.

6. Hold at a steady speed of 55 to 60 mph for five minutes.

OBDII monitors catalytic converter efficiency, misfire, EGR, fuel trim, oxygen sensors and purge functions.

7. Decelerate (coast down) to a stop without braking. OBDII makes a final check of EGR and canister purge.

U have to operate the engine at all kinds of diff speeds and drive modes, it is called a OBDII drive cycle, here is how u do one.
