Question about Chevrolet Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My ignition is locked after I inserted the wrong key. I can easily put in the correct but it doesn't turn at all. The car was power, the interior lights come on and the chime for an open door sound when i insert the correct key. I just can't turn the ignition. I fear that I may have triggered some anti-thief device. The car is 99 caviler.

SOURCE: Anti-theft system stuck triggered

Doing roadside assistance I have ran into this problem several times and if you look in your owners manual it will tell you how to reset it. Some of the cars you have to wait up to 10 min. with the key in the ignition and try again. The light will go out. READ carefully our owners manual.
Hope this helped....Kevin

Hi what is happening is that your turn off your car and left the wheels turned to one side and specially if your car is parke in a hill what you have to do is to force the steering wheel to the same direction of your wheels this will free up the ignition switch it is going to be hard let me tell you but it will work and this is why your shift don't work once you have the ignition switch free then your shift will work again

    Program a remote key for 03 A6

I have an A4 and did this to re-program my key:

    1. used the key to start the car...then turned it off
    2. put the key in the driver door (door closed)
    3. pressed the lock button on the key fob once
    4. turned the key to lock the door.

This is basically the steps in the owners manual, but the car must be started with the key first, and the key must be in the door lock before pressing the lock button.

You accidently tripped the anti theft deterrent that lock the whole ignition system when the worng key or a foriegn object is inserted into the slot. The only way to fix this, is to have it taken to a ford repair shop, since they will probably have to replace the whole steering collum.
