Question about 1994 Ford Explorer Limited
I know in the case of my '94, it's age. The seals are getting tired after 20 years and the pressure is leaking by so the forward engage servo piston doesn't travel to the required position. I'm going to try adding some seal softener and hope I can get a few thousand more miles out of it. It has a tender 212,000 miles.

possible fuel pump. Try spraying starting fluid into breather while someone is cranking engine. if vehicle tries to run it is fuel problem. If not it could be an electrical componet overheating and cooling and restarting. Coils, relays, ecm.

Very common on this make and model trans, pump drive splines inside torque converter strip out and pump is not turning, Most times there is no damage to pump shaft. Remove trans and remove torque converter, inspect the splines at the very bottom of the hub hole. If stripped out inspected pump shaft splines which are the smaller center splines coming out of trans, if ok replace torque converter and re-install trans, change out fluid, clean any metal from magnet and replace filter, fill with fluid and verify proper operation.

I know this sounds stupid but will it back up if you put it in 4wd low? If yes its a transfer case problem. If no, they the transmission will need rebuilt. Also can you push the vehicle forward or backward in park?
