Question about 1994 Dodge Dakota Club Cab

1 Answer

I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota, 3.9L V-6 with TBI. I just bought it 3 weeks ago, and after it's been running long enough to get up to temperature, if I shut it off it won't start for maybe 15-30 minutes. It will start if re-started almost immediately, but after some/several minutes it won't start unless I spray ether or pour gas in the TB. It will start then and run fine.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge at the motor
You bought for I don't know what reason a 20 year
old vehicle,so your going to be fixing something
continually
I had a 1992 new & except for the brake tubing rusting
I had no problems

Thanks. I did know that checking the fuel pressure would be a good idea. I just didn't see why there would be sufficient fuel pressure to run at Interstate speeds, and when the engine is relatively cool or cold, and not when it is at operating temperature. Of course she may not have been truthful, but the lady I bought it from said they had a new fuel pump put in recently. I bought a 20 year old truck mainly because that's what I could afford, and I do most of my own work. This sort of problem is moslty outside of my experience and that's why I posted here. Thank you again.

SOURCE: 89 dodge d159 318 will not start unless spay ether

sound like you have either a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump
start with the fuel filter first keep it simple first
if that don't work for you then pull your fuel line off and cycle the key and see if the pump is putting out fuel
if you don't get fuel then change the fuel pump
hope I could help
leave some feedback if you could
good luck

its possible its an inline filter which would run across the chassis, or in the tank mounted with the fuel pump.

Engine quits after 3 or 4 miles of driving

I would think either a bad coil, or ignition module,or fuel pump. Sometimes the big relays for these system can cause this symptom so rotate the important ones in the engine compartment. Also if yours has an ASD relay this is your main power one.

I have a 1994 Dodge Dakota, no power at low rpms

yes it does if it is reading lets say lower than normal that would explain easy start up and stalling later.the coolant temp sensor has two wires .so if your car warms up and your coolant is about 200 degrees your coolant sensor might say 80 degrees .access to a scanner to check temp would be great.
