Question about Nissan Maxima

Open Question

My ABS light comes on, car pauses when driving slow speeds or stopping, then dies. Had a brand new battery but got it jumped and it was dying on the way to the store. They replaced the battery and four days later, it did it again. The ABS light flickers a couple times before dying and being unable to be restarted until recharging the battery (which is now only four days old). The brakes were starting to squeel a tiny bit as I would stop the last few days noticably but my daughter said that she could hear it on the outside of the car for a few months sometimes when backing up? Is the car dying and draining the battery an alternator problem or is there something wrong with the brakes, or electrical system as I have seen some posts about shavings covering up sensors and such? Thanks!

I would have all the grounds checked. Sounds like it is not grounding properly. This will in turn not allow the battery to charge correctly and will make other electrical devices to operate incorrectly. For example the body ground if not good it will try to find another ground IE the shift cable. This is not designed to maintain a connection of amperage and will allow battery to die. Also will cause problem with cable and could fatigue it enough to break. Just check for good grounds on motor and body. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

The battery is only use to start the car, once the car is moving the alternator takes over and charges the battery. I sounds like the alternator is bad. You take the alternator to Napa, Auto Zone or Advance auto part and have them check it for you.

New battery. abs, battery and service engine lights come on. all headlights and tails flicker and car dies and wont start. jump it let it warm up and doesnt do it for awhile. then at some point it does it...

These are all signs of a bad alternator. The car is running off of only the battery. The alternator charges the battery and keeps the car running. When the alternator quits charging the car will run fine until the battery dies. Then you can jump the battery and charge it, and the car will run fine until all of the electronics and lights run the battery down again.

1998 Dodge Durango 4X4 SLT, 82k miles: Electrical shot. Help.

The speed sensor on the rear differential is a common problem with these vehicles. That sensor would cause the speedo problem, the odometer problem, the abs light, no cruise control, but it would not cause it to die. The speed sensor is easy to change. I is stuck in the top of the differential housing with one bolt holding it in. You can change that yourself for about 35 bucks. The dying problems sounds like a cam or crank sensor. You say the transmission lags, is that mean it is slow to accell or it has a slide shift from 1 to 2 then bangs into 2nd?
