Could be the gauge on the dash or the sending unit in the tank.

What kind of vehicle ? Make , model and year ! Most of the time is is caused by the sending unit inside the fuel tank or the gauge it self is bad . There are videos on youtube showing how to test to see which is the problem .

I have a 1999 oldsmobile alero ... i'm smelling gas fumes as the car sits w a/c or heat on ..gas needle dosent work properly.. and humming noise...seems to smell strongest when low on gas..went t

For the first problem, if you can get me the codes I may be able to help you figure out the problem with the gas smell. The fuel gauge problem could be the gauge on the dash or the sending unit in the tank.
You should have the body computer scanned for trouble codes to find out whats going on with the ABS and traction control.
I have no clue on the humming noise.

My fuel gauge dosent work on my 1986 nissan 300zx

The fuel level sensor is defective in almost every case. It is located inside the fuel tank, the tank must be removed from the car to replace it.

Have a 2001 gmc jimmy...drove home gas gauge read 1/4 tank..next day cranked over but wont start..gas gauge reads empty...put $10.00 from spare gas can..cranked over but no start ..gas gauge still reads...

chevy and gmc trucks have an on going problem with this, turn the key on,and get a rubber mallot or a hammer and hit the bottom of the fuel tank a couple of times, this will unstick something in the fuel pump/sending unit.

My gas gauge dosent work and my blinker but my fourway flaser work

You will need to purchase a new sending unit which is screwed into the top of the Geo Tracker Gas Tank . A new one will come with a new gasket - I just saw one on E-Bay - I had the same problem with my 1995 Geo Tracker Also.

Fuel gauge

What you probably have...is a worn out fuel gauge sending unit. It is not worth the trouble to fix this unless you can do it yourself, or have someone fix it for free ( a brother or relative) If it works at 1/4 of a tank, then that is all you really need so that you don't run out of gas. The sender is a coil of fine wire wrapped around a small fiber or plastic wafer. Then there is an electric contact that slides along this coil and the resistance changes in proportion to level of fuel in the tank. This allows a variable signal to be sent to your fuel gauge in the dash, that corresponds to the level of fuel in the tank. The contact, and the coil are both metal, which wear out after time. Sorry.
