Question about 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe

Open Question

2001 Tahoe has parasitic leakage of about 0.8Amps. Leakage current goes to 0.14Amps after removing the RDO Amp fuse. Relatively new fully charged battery will fully discharge in about 3 days. Symptom is very repeatable. Tahoe has original Delco factory radio with integral CD player and remote factory tape player in the console. It does not have the rear bass boost speaker. What are my options?

Sounds like you may have a cable issue. You should have two positive cables one supplying power to starter and one powering vehicle. if the starter power wire is not getting good connection but other is then it will only click. check this wire for corrosion inside cable

98 Jimmy has a power draw it kills the battery within 12 hrs if you pull the 50 amp fuse for the int batt draw goes away any ideas

Yes Steve I do , that fuse supply's power to the I/P fuse block inside the vehicle . It powers AUX/PWR fuse #13 -20amp , RDO/BATT fuse #19 - 15amp ,MIR/LKS fuse #7 - 5amp , CTSY/LP fuse #8 - 15 amp , CIGAR/LTR fuse #2 15 amp , PWR/LKS fuse #14 15 amp , HDLP/SW fuse #1 - 10amp .Do you know where the I/P fuse block is ? You would need to do a parasitic draw test ! This involves hooking up a amp meter in series with the negative battery post an negative battery cable . Pulling each one of these fuses till the battery draw stops ! How To Perform Parasitic Draw Test EricTheCarGuy check out Eric the car guy's video on the subject !

2002chevroletz71.Something is draining the battery after setting for 5-6 hours. Battery(new)starter, alternator all check good, even disconnected alternator. The truck is well equipped but everything se

No-- it appears that something is NOT turning off or
going to sleep

Google or You Tube Video how to do a Parasitic
Current Drain Test

Remember once you close all doors, they stay closed
or your starting over

It may take a half hour before modules time out

Best you have a wiring diagram & an amp clamp or
volt meter, to put into one of the battery cables, to watch
for the drain (MilliAmps) as you remove the fuses to isolate the circuit with the problem

The alternator diodes were checked out with a scope
or checked for leakage?

My 2004 s80 2.9 volvo has a charge prob alt new battery new this seems to last one or two weeks then click clik clik i jump it starts fine heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp please

Have you had it checked for leakage whilst off? Ask for a DC current leakage test from your battery whilst the key is removed. Leakage will result in the battery draining whilst off. If the test show a leak you will need to start/looking for electrical circuits / lights remaining on.

take your battery to a parts store. they will test it. It is probably shorting out inside and causing the loss. buy new battery.

My 99 Voyager is now possessed! We replaced the battery and checked the alternator. They are both good. checked for a draw on the battery and came back with a 42.9 amp draw. I cant keep the battery charged...

You made no mention of checking for the cause of the main
problem,the battery drain

Have you not used an amp meter to check for parasitic drains?

The battery light comes on ?
You can not have any lights on after the motor

Checked Alternator how-that light has to go

Do an injector balance test and a cylinder leakage test. Lets make sure its not fuel related. Most important lets make sure you don't have a vacuum leak.

1- If the battery is old, some of the cells are dead then it can never be fully charged. 2- There is possible current leakage when the key ignition is out. Here is a check. 3- Take off the wire connection to the alternator. Take off the car key. Use a Multimeter set to current measurement To measure in series from the positive terminal of the battery to the positive cable. ( of course you have to take off the positive cable from the battery.) Your measurement should be less than 15mA, Higher than that you have shortage some where. Starting take off all fuses. one at a time to see the leakage measurement reduce to locate which path is leaking. 4- Keep the measurement set up like this, connect the Alternator wire inis place, look at the muleteer to how is the leakage current measurement. Sometimes the diode in Alternator circuitry leak allow the battery current flow back to the alternator causing battery current drainage. 5- Due to some work involved in testing to find out leakage current, You better be sure your battery fully charged to stay with statement the battery is really good but draining current because of some leakage.

Does a 2001 VW Beetle Turbo need to have a charge at 12.6 volts to conduct a parasitic draw test? I am told by a repairman that he cannot find out what is going on until I get a new alternator, batter

this is not true, a parasitic draw can be found with the battery in any state of charge, yhe purpose of this test is to find out out what is drawing current, meaning amperage from the battery and at what rate. take this to a certified mechanic, should be easy to find with the right tools.if you need more help get back to me. please rate my fix as i stive to be the best Thanks Ray
