Question about Mercedes-Benz Cars & Trucks

My 2006 R500 with 69,000 miles has gotten stuck, I guess, in first gear. It will not change gears and causes RPM's to race. It has happened at start up, and in highway driving in a construction zone, where there was no place to pull over, I had to drive at the low speed with the engine roaring, until there was a place to pull off. When I turn the engine off and restart, it runs fine. What would cause this and what should I do?

the canister fuel filter is partly blocked. you will find it under the car at the rear . it is an easy fix . take off fuel cap . it is an inline filter only 2 clips to undo .replace with new one which costs about 10 pounds when you see new one you will see how easy it is to do

There is a PIP on this concern that states that you're vehicule may have a pcv system problem. Simply take off you're air intake tube (the tube between the trottle body and air filter) and check to see if the trottle body or air intake tube are oily inside (like realy wet). If so i'd recomend going to you're dealer, they got a special procedure for this problem.

which is it?
the engine rpm tells you if the engine is weak or transmission slips.
2.0 liter , DOHC I4, J20 engine.
which transmission, my guess A/T box. (sounds like?) sure..
test one
1: in drive. pointed in safe direction, say a field or ?
2: parked, hand brake and foot brake held hard and fast.
3: race engine to wide open throttle for 1 to 3 seconds.
and lift right foot. after noting RPM. quckly.
4: rpm below 2200 rpm is a weak engine , if the engine spools
wildly up to 3500 rpm or more, the transmission is bad. (slips)
this is called the stall test. (in the FSM)
2,300 - 2,600 r/min. for H25/J20 engine
stall test passes. so does the transmission reach 4th gear.
1,2,3,4? yes/ .no.
yes, the its not the transmission.
if engine power lacks in any gear, that is the engine. weak.

this post is about the engine power, (my answer)
will you change 100 more parts guessing?
why do that?, any shop can diagnose it for a fraction of your guessing.

if the trans dont slip
  1. over heating? the engine?
  2. never done a tuneup this decade?> really?
  3. low fuel pressure?
  4. low engine compression.?
  5. Bad MAF sensors or just dirty?
  6. check engine light on running?, why ignore that, scan it.
  7. weak spark , see #2 and 6
  8. leaking or clogged injectors. or stuck on, for 2 reasons.
  9. Intake vacuum air leaks>?


both the engine and transmissions are complex
as is the vast number of tests to do. based on previous tests and logic.

What's the normal rpm while shifting gears on an automatic 2006 c230?


No such figure. Shift points can be near the redline RPM or just above idle, it depends on hard you press the gas pedal.

it might be transmission problem,check the oil level or add some trans oil treatment.do a scan test & read the number.

My Nissan sentra fn15 with a ga15 engine, the rev counter does not change with rpm increase, drive car for 10 mins it slowly goes to 5-600 rpm, it also stalls sometimes, are they related

the engine tachometer reads what.
that whole post is a contradiction.
ahh, you mean the engine does not accelerate, or the engine bogs.
600 RPM is why below, 800 normal (most cars)
the engine stalls, well sure it will as low idle speed will surely do.
so the real post is my engine stalls.
and if i try WOT ,it will go above 600 rpm in or out of gear?
wot means wide open throttle.
can the engine race to 3000RPM in PARK (or neutral)
if engine power is ok, full WOT power up a hill and is only and idle problem say some. and we work bad idle.

the top reason for stalls (besides #1 never ever doing the 60k mile service,repeats at every 60k)_
is a stuck open EGR (part of same service to do that but Ill add that)
or stuck closed ISC (electric IAC)

The tachometer shows 900 RPM on idle position but as i put the car in gear and release the clutch the RPM drops and u have to race the car manually through accelerator pedal.recomend the diagnostics a


The engine does not need to be raced when cold

The vehicles computer will adjust the idle according
to how the manufacture programmed it

After about one mine or so, the idle on most vehicles
comes down to approx 750RPM, generically speaking

When you put the car in gear,assuming it is an automatic,
the rpm will drop a 100 at most & may be adjusted by the
computer, just as it does when you put the A/C on. That is
to compensate for the change in engine load

You should be waiting for the rpm to come down to 650 to
800 & then a couple more minutes for some temp to come
up, before driving off. In cold weather wait at least 5 min or more

I think your vehicle is not working correctly, or you not explaining
it in a way I understand what answer you want

Have you ever had the transmission fluid and filter replaced, do that and see if that cures the problem.

Check the trans gear oil!!!
Also the cables from the shifter to the trans actuate levers on the trans that sometimes stick. Check the levers.

Clutch slip problem when gears are changed after 4000 rpm


you have 20k miles after the clutch has been changed, now are you used to drving clutch, secondly is it hydraulic or cable controled clutc?

if you are used to drving clutch sys probable cause is defective pressure plate or the throwout bearing is not fully releasing in other words the clutch is partialy applied all the time because of the re;ease bearing not fully releasing!!
