SOURCE: How to reset Check Engine

You can remove the NEG battery terminal for 10 minutes and it will clear. Or go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan, find out why it came on, then have them clear it with their scanner.

Dustin, could be a few things, failing alternator bearing, belt tensioner, Belt it self, water pump, etc. Take to a good technician and have them diagnose and estimate repair.

1996 mercury grand marquis makes sucking or blowing air sound when I turn the car off

Have the throttle body valve cleaned and the idle speed control valve cleaned, they get full of gunk from combustion blowback and this restricts the airflow through them and that will cause noise on shutdown of the engine.

The air flow system is making a load humming (mooing) sound. I have a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis and would like to know what is done to stop the noise and how much does it cost to repair.

The air intake ducting (all the black hose plumbing coming from air cleaner box) may have a loose connection somewhere. Check all clamps and sensors attached.

Every now and then, not often my 2001 grand marquis makes a loud humming noise while idling and it stops when i pull off, it may not do it again for another week. what is going on?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

You may have a worn out pulley or tensioner somewhere on the engine. If the bearing of the pulley or tensioner is faulty it can make a humming sound during take off and will stop when parked. But in any given time it will break and will surely make much louder noise even when parked so you might as well have it checked and replaced if necessary.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

1996 Mercury Grand Marquis - wipers will not work. Have check multifunctional switch and motor. Both ok.

if motor and switch are ok and the motor is running, then it's the ball joints on the arms that have become disconnected underneath the windshield in the firewall vicinity. Also, the wiper arms could be stripped out.
