SOURCE: 2003 nissan sentra gxe trouble shifting into 2nd

Hi. The Nissan has been known to have issues with the stock solenoids that are installed by the factory. The transmission also has a OD shift solenoid as well. I would do two things. ONe, check the fluid level if you can. It shouldn't be caped with a plug but, some models have sealed transmissions. If your model has a dip stick, please check the level of the transmission fluid. If the level is ok, i would drop the pan and check the solenoids to make sure that they are working properly. while the pan is dropped, It will be good to visually inspect the bottom of the pan for metal fragments and discolored fluid. If you see anything not normal like black fluid or metal small fragments, this will not be normal. Although, the shift patterns of this model are quite unusual, I would recommend using the instructions above to make sure that this transmission is not malfunctioning.

please rate and have a great weekend..

SOURCE: 1993 Nissan pickup, replacing starter

I have a '95. It's behind the passenger side tire. Remove tire and rock guard if you have one--couple of screws--and you can easily access it. two bolts facing rear of car, two connections up front. Honestly it was the easiest replacement I've ever done. Just disconnect your battery first.

Nissan Matic is what the owner's manual lists. I would recommend you call your local Nissan dealer as things change and there may be another fluid that is recommended today.

I have a Nissan Hardbody pick up D21, I have been using it since 1996, on the cold start (auto gears) the gear in the ''D'' position the vehicle does not move, I have to start moving on the ''2'' position...

Has the transmission ever been serviced? High mileage? I'm thinking your tranny is going out. I would take to transmission shop and ask. Don't expect pretty answer. Good Luck.

yes this will fit, model years 88-97 will fit. I would recommend the newest model you can get, as they improved internal hardware after 93. hopefully this helps

Whining noise when engaging 1st or reverse.

i had a nissan pickup that would whine in all gears except started out with 1st then reverse then went to the rest...solution was new transmission...or rebuild cause the syncronizers or the gears them selves are being chewed up...the new transmission was cheaper then a rebuild. or take it to somewhere that will do free diag on the transmission.

93 Nissan Pickup 5spd w/ 76000 miles, i go to start and the starter sounds like its spinning freely and the engine wont crank...i still have my guages and lights, and the fuel pumps coming on, but it wont...

From your description, you probably have a few broken teeth on your flywheel. A way to confirm this is to place the transmission in gear, release the brake and rock the truck back and forth a Little. Take it back out of gear and try it again. If the starter engages, it has confirmed my suspicion. This is the most common finding for the symptom you have described. I have rarely run across a started drive gear failure on a Nissan product, bar none, since 1968 until now! IF, however the test I have given you has not resolved the problem, this means that the solenoid has not kicked the starter drive gear out far enough, the drive gear it self has failed or the starter is loose causing the drive gear to be too far from the flywheel teeth to contact. The latter is a 1 a 100,000 shot!
