If you have checked the fuel pressure with a gauge and it is below spec, the pump is inside the gas tank so the tank would need to be dropped. You would need to check the fuel filter and also make sure the pump is getting power before replacing the pump.
It sounds like you have a defective fuel pump. The pump is locate inside the fuel tank, the fuel tank must be removed to replace the pump. Please follow this procedure to remove the fuel tank. Disconnect neg battery cable, safely raise vehicle, place floor jack under tank, loosen gas tank straps and allow tank to slowly drop halfway, disconnect( this is the hard part) fuel lines, and power connections at tank. Drop tank. With a brass hammer/punch carefully remove retaining ring/seal.Reverse to install.A new pump module will cost you $300-$400 at the dealer. Don't use a cheap pump replace the entire assembly because this is a float/sender/pump/ in one. Replace your fuel filter too or the fuel pump warranty is voided..
Did you check and or change the fuel filters? Also check and make sure your air intake is all hook up tight an air leak will cause that also..hope this helps.
Your fuel pump is in the gas tank. You have to drop the tank, relieve the pressure at the fuel rail then disconnect the lines going to the top of the tank.
I think they are the same on 1992-2001
On a 1993 the fuel pump in the gas tank. you will have to siphon gas out of the tank (as much as you can) before working on it.
Disconnect the tank filling hose.
Unbolt the tank, and drop that it down.
There is a damper on the pump that may also be defective (dead) which would cause a hard start because of the lack of pressure in the line.
Optional:
Recommendation, as i have replaced many of these fuel pumps now. Cut a hole in the deck while the tank is out.
This way, you can simply reach through the deck and pull it out of the tank if it happens again. Make sure You machine screw a sheet metal plate over the hole and replace the carpet.
I do not think so. Look above the fuel tank to make sure but I believe you will have to remove the fuel tank in order to replace the pump. Be sure and replace the fuel filter at the same time. Partially clogged fuel filters are the main cause of fuel pump failure.
Drop the fuel tank, you'll see a ring on the top of the tank, it may be coated in sealant, chip out the sealant and the ring should turn, then the pump will come out
