Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

89 Toyota Town/Masterace Import 4x4 turbo diesel, the van originally had the 2CT engine in, I replaced this with a 3CT. At one stage a friend had it and noticed that it wasn't picking up like it used to, it was shuddering every time he tried to take off, and it was slipping moderately. He discovered that the bracket holding the kickdown cable had completely dissapeared after he returned from doing over 300km in it. I took it to a mechanic who said that he didn't know anything about them but said that it wouldn't hurt to use it about town like it was, recently it has been slipping seriously, and when I use 4wd it fails to go at all. I'd appreciate any help I can get.

It was NOT OK to drive like that. Hate to say it, but Trans shop time. Find a good one, not especially a "pretty" one, Good luck.

Toyota 2ct diesel turbo in 4x4 Townace van 1991 model Pumping water out of overflow hose, no sine of oil in radiator, no sine of water or stem in tail pipe, motor idle ok, starts fine, thermostat test ok,...

it is the head gasket blown from the cyl to the water jacket ,a radiator specialist can test for combustion gases in the water to confirm this ,but that is what it is . "youdoit"

AIR GETTING INTO COOLING SYSTEM TOYOTA MASTERACE TURBO DIESEL 1993 4X4

Air getting in to the cooling system is a good indication that the head gasket has gone bad. During the time your turbo will boost the compression ratio is when the air will get pushed through the head gasket into your cooling jackets between the engine block and head's. Good luck and hope this helps.

Hi there. i have a 1986 toyota hilux 3.0l turbo(knocking)

I have a Toyota Hilux 3.0 KZ-TE fitted with a intercooler and on Saterday on a 4x4 outing the engine light on the dashboard came on and the motor started spluttering and excessive white smoke came out of the exhaust. The problem persisted for several minutes and then went away. The verdict from other 4x4 owners was that the turbo needs an overall, I cannot understand this as it is fine again with no mechanical interferance.

Diesel engine (2c turbo inport from china)

gday im a mechanic i have owned two of these in a lite ace and a tarago there are three possitions that the cam shaft can be aligned and not have valve piston contact the middle one is the right one the two ither side of the correct one cant breath properly smokes badly ,idels rough and extreem lack of power and excessive noise (cam belt one tooth out ) same if injector pump is a tooth out but noisier. you need to remove the fan hub bracket to see the timing mark for the IP drive pully also the injector pump internals can be assembled 180 degrees out resulting in injection at bottom dead centre , extreem noise ,heaps of smoke and will barely move the car in first gear also the crank timing mark is only visible with the front harmonic balance flywheel and timing belt cover removed . answer to the other question why not a rover diesel . the 2ct ues heaps less fuel revvs heaps harder comes factory balanced is heaps quieter and lasts heaps longer there is no contest with the rover diesel the 2ct weighs less to the down side is that the turbo usualy fitted on the 2ct is under sized and very short lived. boosts early for low down torq but is unable to breath at the high revvs that this engine loves. turbo getts too hot at highway speeds and melts bearings if not warmed down . mine has a water cooled turbo of a 2.8 izuzu motor from a trooper/jackeroo im soon fitting this engine and turbo into 79 chrysler scorpion. this engine when decompressed to 17 to one with hot glow plugs handles 30 psi boost, you can get three different thickness head shims for this motor to decompress , ignore petro company propaganda ive done 300,000+ kms burning everything from lard mixed with alchohol to canola and sunflower blended with jet fuel ,petrol, sump waste oil a good injecor pump will feed an engine anything thicker than kerosine so long as its hot(80 to 100degrees c) even lard and sumpoil the thicker the oil the more lubricating and the longer the pump and injectors last so long as the oil is well filtered and free of water
