Hi Billy, I'm glad to help!

This problem can run into a lot of issues that can cause this. So understand that sense I'm not there to check it out I'm only giving you possibilities and not things to replace. (1) The most common thing we find when this happens is the CAM and CRANK Sensors. (2) Sometimes when a fuel pump is going bad it will overheat and shut down then after cooling it will restart. (3) Engine Controllers with defects inside will shut down after heating up and then restart after cooling. (4) ASD RELAY or FUEL PUMP RELAY can do the same thing shut off when hot and work after cooled. If your engine has one single coil it will also do the same thing. BUT, if you have coil on plug then you can rule this one out. (5) You could also have something bring the BUS CIRCUIT down. So you see just from a few possibilities there is lot of things that can cause this problem.
NOTE: If I were working on this vehicle in my shop I would see if there are any codes so have autozone check to see if it has any code. EXAMPLE: If it has a cam sensor code then I'd suggest replacing both the CAM and CRANK Sensors, I'd also start with the RELAYS before changing any expensive parts. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Billy.

My son's '99 2.0 eclipse keeps stalling on him. runs good for a bit then just dies. battery is good. Alternator and starter are new. help if you can. tnx

time to have the battery , alternator tested by an accredited auto electrical shop
batteries test good but fail if a load tester is used and having to jump start it indicates that the battery is not good
If there is not enough power available to run the ECM then it will die when the battery voltage drops below required voltage
the fact that ir runs for a while and dies indicates that the alternator is not producing sufficient power to run the battery and the ECM again indicating a bad battery

Have a 02 Suzuki esteem and the headlights go off when the steering wheel is all hard right or left and battery light comes on dashboard. any ideas?

are you driving or parked idling
did engine stall? zero RPM = stalled, did it?
wow that sounds like fun,. not.
loss of headlights (HL) is clear, but simple!
as they work key off, so is a hard electrical failure.
with a voltmeter is 5min work
but here at blindmansblog.com (sic) we must guess.
my wild guess is,
1: battery terminals rusty, clean them, every year.
2: battery went dead. 12.6vdc rested is good, or more.
3: fuse for HL are loose or the main fuses underhood loose or bad.

My car turn off on the highway

Hello and welcome to FixYa!

As a first course of action, I do hope that you have fuel. It may just be the reason why it shuts down on the highway.

If you have a good fuel then it can be a bad fuel filter that clogs the fuel flow which can cause stalling too. Your battery good? If you have a faulty battery the car may stall too.

If all are good then the problem can be electrical. It can be a bad ignition module or coil pack. This will surely require an on hand trouble shooting and I suggest that you have it looked at by a reputable mechanic.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

I had a gradual loss of electrical power while driving a 1999 Ford Escort, resulting in surging and eventual stall. I had the battery load tested and it was acceptable. The alternator was only putting out...

Test the alternator again to make sure it is putting out the correct voltage. Also if you have a bad connection on the battery and battery cables you can cause arcing and that can drain you battery and will also cause the car to lose electrical power and stall like you had happen. Buy a batter terminal cleaner at any auto parts store and give the terminals a good cleaning and then tighten them down so they dont move.

sounds like your alternator is about to go out, not feeding enough currant to the electrical components that need it, i.e. ECM , ESM..and so on.
you may want to have that checked or replaced.
always a good idea to replace the battery when replacing the alternator.

STALLS WHEN BATTERY CABLE IS PULLED GOOD ALTENATER AND BATTERY

If the vehicle stalls when you pull the battery cable loose from the battery the alternator can not be good because the car would stay running. You have an issue with the charging system, Possible voltage regulator which is in the alternator. Have the alternator taken of the van and tested a the parts house.

Sounds like an electrical problem. Remove all three battery cables , clean them along with the contacts at the battery and replace both bolts. These cars have two positive cables, one to the starter and one to the engine body electrical system. Try this and reply back.

Had brand new battery put in and brand new atenator put in but car still dies, i will be going on my third altenator at this time.

If the battery and alternator are good then its not an electrical problem. Stalling is commonly caused by ignition problem. Have someone check your ignition components.
