It is true, however you will not likely be happy with the performance or fuel mileage. The 4.3 is too small and will be working too hard. If you are going to replace the engine you would be wiser and happier with a 305 instead. You only lose about 20 horsepower but you will gain fuel mileage over the 350. With a little careful driving you can get the same mileage out of a 305 as a 4.3 in a mid size car. Hope this helps.

If your engine is knocking the sound with be at the bottom of your oil pan but if you have lifter or rocker arm problems the sound will be at the top of your engine. One other thing you said your car has 315k it might be time to change your oil pump.
