Question about 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder

Open Question

I have a 2000 MR2 Spyder and had water in the back compartment. As I found out the drain holes where plugged. (thanks for the solutions) At the drain hole area I noticed a strap (about 6 inches long) that was connected to the conv top. The other end of the strap has a snap on it. This strap is on both sides of the conv top. My question is: What is this strap for and does it connect or wrap around something and then snapped. Thank you

SOURCE: Water in the storage area

There is a couple of plastic pieces you need to remove inside the storage bins. Two side pieces to be exact, just a couple of pins. Here is a link to more detailed instructions.

Where is the water coming from under the seats in my 2001 MR2 Spyder?

Your roof is leaking there are a couple of plugs that are under the seat that will help in draining the water. Move the seats all the way forward and put the backs tilted forward you will see a piece of plastic that looks like a drain that's one of the covers be gentle as they will break best bet is to get a repair manual for this type of repair as instructions can be done in several ways also then you are going to have to find the leaks you may not see them when driving as they are probably rolling down the back into the roof storage area but if you spray one area at a time also tape around the edges and see where they get the seal broken if its just a leak with the roof suggestion is to let pro handle it as they can restitch or possibly glue top. But it is definitely the roof you can also try the drains in the jamb you will see them as they are just rubber or plastic plugs again be gentle or you will have to buy new ones.

ZZW30 Toyota MR2 Water comes trough the softtop on both sides

I had the same Problem on my 2000 MR2 Spyder. If you gently pop off the black vents on the outside you will see the drain. With your top up feel back in the inside window well you will find the other end of that drain. I took the shop vac on the outside of that drain (the end that was behind the vent) and sucked it out while sticking a coat hanger (straightened out) down the drain from the inside. Then took the hose and flushed it out from the inside! Take a bucket of water and dump it over the outside of your roof and watch it drain! Works great and found out this is a standard problem with them!
