If your fuel tank release has failed, go into trunk/boot and pull back liner on side (fuel filler side) and you will find a cable made for emergency access to fuel filler.

Ford fiesta 1998 ghia no air con. How do you loosen fan belt for replacement. Alternator seems to be fixed ie not hinged to release tension. Is there a separate tensioner?

the alternator IS the adjuster, just free off the holding bolts (4) then use a crowbar(or silmilar)to free of the rust around the block bracket bolts (be careful not to use too much pressure as the bracket is prone to snapping).

Crank shaft doesnt line up with anyother pulleys on fan belt on a nl fairlane

It may be a thrust bearing failure on the crankshaft. See if you can pry or push/pull the crank pulley in and out. If you can move the pulley in and out very much at all there is a problem with the thrust bearings and the engine will need major repair.

Changeing fan belts

fan bealt is easy to change all you need to do is right down how the belt runs befor you start and then loosen the alatanator and move it closer to loosen the belt then remove the belt around the fan and replace just like you wrote down then use a bar to tighten the belt by prying the altaator away from the motor but don't make it to tight then once tou have it as tight as you want tighten back the altanator and thats it
