SOURCE: timing on a 1991 nissan 300zx

There is no means of setting the timing if you are referring to a conventional timing light. The engine is designed with sensors that sense the angle of the camshafts in relationship to the crankshaft and whether it is on the intake or exhaust stroke on the #1 cylinder. This design is actually a little more complex than that because it has variable valve timing which means that the angle in which the camshafts open and close the valves, change with RPM's This give the engine the best of both worlds. It's like have an engine with cams designed for torque at low RPM and a set of cams designed for HP with a free breathing quick revving engine you would have on a race course. The ECM is constantly changing the timing and injector pulse width based on many sources of input, from, the O2 sensor, air flow, air temp, coolant temp, fuel pressure, RPM's and a host of other inputs.
SO>>>>>>>>>>>> in a manner of speaking, unless you are making reference to setting up the timing chain, everything else is under control by the ECM and related components.

Replaced timing belt, was running fine then would not start after putting it back together. gets sparks and gas.

check your timing marks, you have probably got the valves opening at the wrong time. I just hope you didnt bend a valve!!! On most cars they have very distinct marks that need to line up.

Timing is off on my motor 1991 Nissan Pathfinder after I put in a used engine. How do I reset the timing

it has timing marks on the harmonic balancer and should be an arrow looking mark on one of the pulley brackets. you will need a timing light every time it hits top dead center itll flash make sure it flashes and both timing marks are passing each other at the same time. being a 91 it may have a distributer. if it does loosen the one bolt holding it tight have someone start it and hold it straight then turn it one way or the next listen to it to see if that will fix it first usualy thats al you need to do. but if its got a coil pack then you will have to do the timing deal above.

Timming Belt

be very carefull if you are doing this yourself,it is critical to get the timing marks just right or you could do some serious damage to the engine. You must turn the engine by hand with a socket or spanner on the bottom pulley until the mark on it is lined up with the marker on the casing that surrounds it.Once this is done do the same with the top pulley, the mark on this may just be a small indentation that lines up with an arrow, once this is done you can then put on the belt and make sure it is tensioned properly.Once again, these settings are critical and if you are unsure DONT attempt it.

I need to find settings for cam and crank to replace timing belt.

There's a circular stamp on the crankshaft gear teeth. If you drop your oilpan there's a corresponding mark on your oilpump.
