How difficult to change timing belt on kangoo 1.5 dci
Kangoo 1.5DCI 70 timing belt replace.
Not so much a solution as a few points to consider.
A job for EXPERIENCED DIY mech. Anyone CANNOT do it. There is info. out there, but they don't mention the pitfalls.
Firstly, vehicle needs front supported on axle stands or a couple of wheels and tyres. You will need a trolley jack and wood block under the engine. It has to be raised quite high to remove all the bits.
Remove the bonnet. Then first problem. Removing the TDC plug, to enable insertion of timing pin into crankshaft. Difficult to find and difficult to access. Looking down at front of vehicle, find centre of engine fan, move left approx 2ins and follow horizontal line to engine block. May have to remove hoses. Difficult to see.You need a TORX FEMALE socket no 14 to remove this. Nobody mentions this. Do NOT use anything else. If you distort cap you will NEVER remove it with the correct socket later.
Removing crankshaft pulley. Lock flywheel with screwdriver. Do not use timing pins. They will bend. Imo do not bother trying to lock engine by engaging 1st gear and with foot on brake. Too much backlash. Crankshaft bolt is very tight, and engine needs to be locked solid. Use top quality ring spanner, sleeved with extension pipe. You will need at least 2ft of leverage to loosen this bolt.
When you remove this pulley, it is a surprise to see that the crankshaft sprocket is not located on a spigot. It spins freely on the end of the crankshaft, and is fixed ONLY by the tightening of the pulley bolt. Therefore the torque of this bolt is of more CRUCIAL importance than ever, to avoid slippage. If it is slightly below recommended torque, sprocket can slip, losing timing and possibly ruining engine.
Hope this is useful. Think hard, before you undertake this job! Not for a novice.
