SOURCE: Will a bad water pump cause a big rattle?

Yes, it could be, if bearing are bad in the water pump, but more then likely would also be leaking water (coolant), have your other pulleys also checked.

99 alero 3.4 blew the head gasket, intake gasket and water pump. Changed all of it. Rough start and high idle now. What could cause the oil light to stay on with the engine knocking and shaking?

More bad news. Have the oil pressure checked. Did any coolant get in the oil? Did it run like that for some time? Knocking and shaking is bad news-check it out carefully.

Have a knock inside the plastic cover on right side of engine what could cause the knock

you'll need to remove the timing cover and take a look. It could be the timing belt slapping the cover or the water pump going bad or even a bad tensioner or idler pulley.

95 4.6 LTR. V-8 was driven through deep standing

Loud knocking is usually a "bad sign". If water got into the engine, and you tried to start it, you could have bent or broken rods. That's a major engine repair.

2003 chevy trailblazer motor knocking and throwing a small squeak

Henry, first need to determine if it's the actual engine that is knocking. Other accessories (water pump, steering pump, etc) could cause a knock. If the ECM knock sensor picks up a knock, regardless of where it originated from, will start to make timing and fuel adjustments which may cause it to hesitate or "sputter". You can take off the drive belt and start the engine. This will be the tale. If you hear the knocking, it's obviously in the engine and could be as bad as crank bearings or even the torque converter. Have you had any work done recently? If there is no knocking when the engine is running without the serpentine belt, you should now be able to narrow down the bad component by rotating each drive pulley until you find the damage..

did the oil light come on? it it did that means a low pressure situation which can cause con rod bearing damage. the knock sensor can cause that too.

Remove the spark knock sencer on a 1997 dodge caravan

It depends on which engine your Caravan is equipped with. The knock sensor on the 2.4L engine is on the forward side of the engine just below the intake manifold. On the 3.3L and 3.8L engines it is on the forward side of the engine right next to the oil filter. All engines: Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the sensor from the engine block. Reverse procedure to install.

It should be noted that knock sensor failures are very rare on these vehicles. Most knock sensor fault codes for these engines are usually caused by mechanical problems that are creating "rattling" or "knocking" noises in the engine compartment. Things like bad pulley bearings, worn water pumps or loose timing components are most likely at fault. The knock sensor does not know the difference between vibrations caused by these type of failures and those that are caused by ignition ping. The fault code usually sets when the noise or "knock" is still present when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has retarded ignition timing as far as possible. If any knocking or rattling noises are present in the engine area, this should be diagnosed and repaired before replacing the sensor. (Otherwise you will only be wasting your money.)

Started overheating so i and no heat so i changed the thermostat didnt help knocks when its hot from the radiator hose almost like it shooting out a little bit at a time.

please check for bad fan! is it leaking any fluid at all? the radiator fan may have a bad clutch on it. it needs to be checked!! the fan relay in black box under the hood may be faulty also. it should not be getting hot! this can and will cause engine damage! the knocking sound you heaqr are your engine valves and your engine rods knocking! [number#1 check for bad engine fan #2 check for bad water pump, number#3 check for blockage of coolant to your engine. this could cost you an engine!! not to be looked over. hope this advice saves your motor and alot of money! merry christmas from me and mine to you and yours!

Trying to figure out where the knocking is coming from, on engine

It all depends how loud the knock is. A tapping valve can be caused by low oil level, or dirty oil. Topping up or changing oil will solve the problem. A really loud valve tapping is abnormal. Cars sometimes make what you call a spark knock when accelerating hard. Extremely loud knock coming from deep within the engine is a bad sign, which means the engine has failed. Further examination would reveal metallic residue on the dipstick.
