Question about 2002 Buick Regal

1 Answer

I'm hearing a noise in my 2002 Buick Regal GS with Gran Touring suspension. The noise sounds like a "wub-wub-wub," and the only time I've heard anything similar was when a hub bearing had gone bad in my driver's side. The sound is loudest between 30 and 45 mph, and is louder during a left turn, while it almost disappears on a right turn. I can also feel some vibration coming through the steering wheel, matching the "wub-wub-wub" sound. I replaced the front right wheel hub bearing, but this didn't fix the problem. The front left wheel hub bearing was replaced, along with the tires, about 16,000 miles ago. What could be causing that sound? Maybe the rear bearings?

You have a worn out wheel bearing. Nothing else has this symptom.

SOURCE: noise in front end, sounds

You say the rear wheel axles and bearings have been replaced, you mention nothing of the front wheels, you have the symptoms of a front wheel bearing being worn out, remove them and check for pitting in the bearing rollers or the bearing races, I am sure you will find a problem. Hope this helps solve your issue with the bearing noise.

SOURCE: Would noise be wheel bearing

Yes it could be but to be sure, i would jack the car up and pull and push on the tire and see if it moves at all.

SOURCE: Vibration and noise from front end while driving

Jack up the front end and put stands under it and block rear wheels. Look at axle boots and see if they are cracked. Try turning wheel back and forth sharply and see if you can hear any clicking. Problem could be outer axle joints. If the boots are cracked or you hear a clicking noise you will have to replace the axle. The axle and boot come as a complete unit. Please let me know what you find out.

SOURCE: car steering

There could be numerous problems going wrong. Your car is rear wheel drive so it could very well be a bad wheel bearing. If it is extremely loose it can cause a shake in your steering wheel. You may want to check on the condition of your tires and rims especially the left front. A bad tire can cause a shake and pull. If you know how to use your car jack you can try jacking the vehicle up, and put both hands on your front wheel and move it manually to see if there is looseness. Most shops only charge about 1/2 hour to shake down the front end. BMW parts are expensive so be prepared!

Most likely the steering rack is failing & you hear
the power steering pump straining

Happens when you don't change the fluid every 3 years

Also the top strut bearings could be worn & causing the
stiffness also (two problems)

this could be an alternator noise like the bearings.or it could be a bearing in the super charger.try changing the oil for the super charger and see if it helps especially if it hasn`t been changed.

High pitched sound just started. It goes REEEEEE!!

It sounds like your power steering pump as you said, but I would start with changing the main drive belt. I have come across this same problem before. If you change out the belt and you still have this problem, remove the belt and start the engine. Turn the wheels left and right and listen for the noise. If the noise is gone then put the belt back on and check again. If the noise comes back then you have a component problem. I have seen the belt tensioner to make noises as you describe. I hope this helps you. Let me know if this is helpful to you.
