Question about 1998 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

I have a '1998 Toyota 4runner 5spd 3.4Ltr V6 4WD... Recently I've had two seperate issues arrise and I'm not sure if they are related or unrelated to each other! Upon excelleration and only if I am giving 1/2 gas pedal to 3/4 pedal it coughs and cuts out. Then the problem disappears for a few block and then it returs. Issue number two is that the past few mornings it has just clicked when I turned the key and on about the 3rd try it turned over and started. Had the battery checked and it was fine. Anyone out there experience the same thing?

You can have 1) ignition system problem 2) fuel system problem
However you must RUN the scanner/computer for better diagnostic.
the electronic now is very complicated. see the diagram attached.

Over the last year I have noticed a slight decline in gas mileage in my 1998 4Runner (3.4L V6, 16 gallon tank). I was averaging between 260-280 a tank with regular driving (300-320 HWY). I had new tires...

completely unrelated
run the fault codes first then consider a problem heated oxygen sensor/s
consider a blocked cat converter/s
your stated average consumption is 20 mpg so you are either speeding or have a problem to start with
That car should be around the 400 miles mark per tank

Just recently bought a 1991 4runner and the 4wd doesnt work. It is the 3.0litre v6 5spd manual. the 4wd indicator light comes on, it easily shifts between ranges and will go into low range when 4 low is...

The 4x4 indicator light is turned on by the actuator at the front differential when it engages the ADD. This means the problem is not at the front differential. It may be an issue with the transfer case if it's the automatic electronic controlled transfer case.

1992 Toyota 4Runner has a full charge in the battery but has no power to lights, starter, stereo, etc. what could the problem be? its a 2.4L 4cyl 5spd

First, make sure the battery is hooked up correctly, and that the negative cable is secured to the engine block. Check all your fuses. If the fuses are ok, and the battery cable are hooked up right, pos. or + cable to the starter, and neg. or - to ground, then I would have the battery checked. If possible, try another battery. Don't use jumper cables. If the battery is bad, jumper cables would not work.

We have an 87 4Runner. We replaced the turbo 4cyl

It should only start in P and N. Is this a 4 wheel drive? Check the transfer case if it is. If not check to make sure torque converter bolts were put in. If they weren't it won't do anything.

91 toyota 4runner 3.0L has very rouh idle, hard

All "TUNE UP' Components MUST Be Eliminated as suspect to go further with Diagnosis. They Should be 1. KNOWN to be or CLOSE to NEW or 2. Recently Replaced.
What you have is Obviously a Engine Performance Related Problem, Thus These Items Must be in very good condition when checking for a Problem here

Tail Lights Don't Work

I would take out the tail light fuse and repace with a known good fuse. Use a test light to see if you are getting power at each side of the fuse at the little metal tabs on the top of the fuse.

If you have power at each location, then something happned at the connection. You may need an owners manual with a wiring diagram.

1998 Toyota 4Runner AMP + Radio doesn't work (externally)

Sounds like you need the memory wire hooked up.

If the memory wire is Not used, you will get 1 of 3 things,
1 no Sound.
2 no Info, Like the Clock or Station
and 3 "IF the amp is wired Right" you would send the power Backwards to the radio.

Not to mention the voltage for the Amp Trigger is 12+ volts Just low Amps,

So you could wire Just the Radio With 1 ground, 2 hots And Ground the Radio Case, INcase the Radio is using the Ant as a Ground.

Hope this Helps.
