Question about Volkswagen Beetle

Open Question

When i first bought my convertible VW, the windows used to drop 1/2 an inch to clear the area and make the door easily open without contact with the top. I encountered a problem now... the windows sometimes do not detect that the door is opened and do not drop down the 1/2 inch causing an impact against the top when I try to open/close the door. This doesn't happen all the time and I have been looking all over the web for a solution but no hope... I read about many solutions but I am unsure which one will solve my problem. I tried to reset the windows by the raising all the windows up and holding the switch for a few seconds then pressing to lower them (repeating it 5 times) but this didn't work. I finally sprayed WD-40 into the door latch and this only fixed the problem for one day. It stopped working again the next day.

SOURCE: 2004 VW Beetle Convertible. Drivers door window

can you hear the motor trying to work the window? A fairly common problem is the window regulator breaks. this is the cable operated lifting mechanism that raises the window, when it breaks you can hear the motor winding away, accompanied by a faint clunking noise as the motor tries to operate the mechanism. They are quite difficult to replace.
if you cannot hear the motor working (also assuming all your other windows do work) then either to motor is faulty or there is no power to the motor. the wiring inside the rubber boot that goes from the car to the door (by the door hinges) is prone to breaking due to the constant flexing back and fourth as the door is opened and closed. switches can also fail, you may be able to swap the drivers/passengers switches around if they are identical for testing.

I have an 06 pt cruiser when I bought it couldn't open door from inside. Suddenly door opens from inside and window won't come down what's the problem

Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the power and ground at the master switch mount in the dash. Pin 12 is power at key on and pin 4 is the ground.

2. Next try driving the left front window by applying power to pins 13 and 14, switch polarity should drive the window up and down. If not, check for broken wires in the between "A" pillar and the door, then gain access to the window motor and try applying right at the motor.
Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the outside door handle switch. It should ground the Orange/Yellow wire when the handle is raised. Tech Tips: The power window should drop slightly whenever the door is opened. The ensures a tighter seal to the convertible top.

2004 vw beetle drivers side window does not work with key fob or door switch and does not go down slightly when door is open or convertible top is lowered. all other windows work. door locks will not work...

Open the drivers side door and see if you can peel back the covering on the wires going into the door. Sometimes from opening and closing the door so much 1 or more of the wires break or rub bear and contact each other or something else. Check if all the wires are good.

I have a vw 2003 beetle convertible, with a problem with the window. It wont drop down to open door...or go up after i close the door. It opens ok with the button otherwise?

That sounds like a door lock problem. The door lock sends a signal to the convienience control unit to activate the window so you can openthe door and raises the window when you close the door.Try another door lock.good luck.

04 Beetle Driver's side window sensor issue (maybe?)

Not likely. You have a defective window regulator. To fix remove the door panel. Peel down the warer barier. Remove the window motor and check it. If the plastic plugs are defective replace. To remove the window regulator you will need a 1/4 inch punch to punch out the rivits and 1/4 inch drill to drill out the aluminum holding in the regulator. Replace these with 1/4 inch bolts and lock nuts.

Window will not lower when door handle is pulled to open door.

VW window motors are known to be problematic. Lucky you had a service contract, otherwise you may have opted to replace the window motor yourself for substantially less cost.

Window sensor drivers side

as far as the window goes... here is the full reset procedure. I beleve in your case you only need to do part #2

GLASS RESET PROCEDURE: If window is hindered whilst closing, it will open again immediately. Attention: does not work when using car key to open/close window. After window has opened, lift and hold appropriate switch within 10 seconds. If window is still hindered it will stop closing. After window has stopped, lift switch again within 5 seconds in order to close window. It will now close without roll-back function.

2. To reinstall this function: Lock vehicle from outside via driver’s door. When doing this, please ensure that all windows are completely closed. Unlock vehicle and then lock it again via driver’s door. Hold key in locking position for at least 1 second.

hope this help.
p.s. find a new dealership!!!

Volkswagen Beetle Convertible Power Window Release

i would think the door is not recognised as being opened.if the interior or door light does not work when the door is opened its probally due to a faulty microswitch in the door lock mechanism, the whole lock mechanism will need to be replaced.
