Is that the 4.2 liter inline 6-cylinder engine, or the 5.3 liter V8 engine? Big difference in starter location.

SOURCE: how to remove starter 2003 gmc envoy

It is fairly simple although I still recommend you get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle. 1. Disconnect the Negative terminal on the battery. 2. jack up the vehicle and support the vehicle with jack stands. 3. Remove the 2 to 3 retaining bolts, there are always 2 but on some year models they put 3 you will see them. Be careful that you don't let it drop so far it breaks the wires. 4. Remove the wiring connectors. Reverse the process to install the new starter.

The new starter may have to be shimmed to engage the ring gear but another possibility is that the ring gear is damaged.

Where is the starter in a 2006 GMC Envoy?

The starter is located under the vehicle back where the engine and transmission bolt together. You may have to remove a splash shield to see or gain access to it.

Cant get the Harmonic Pully Bolt off 03 envoy 4200 [ is it standard or reverse thread

if its like the 5.3L series, I put a socket and breaker bar on it, and braced it against the fram. Then I hit the starter and it broke the bolt loose. I had to use a Chrysler Harmonic Puller (the GM pulley has no holes to mount)...

2005 GMC Envoy. Wining sound from under the car at startup.

Hello,
I suggest checking your starter motor. If the starter motor is staying engaged it could be a bad solenoid or a bad ignition switch.

I hope this helps.

My 2006 GMC Envoy won't start and the battery is good and all the fluids are full, how would I locate the starter to check to see if that was the problem?

ne side starter is mounted against the face of the transmission on oof the engine (usually on the right side) Under the car. There should be 12v at the main lead and 12v at the small (trigger) terminal when the key is turned to the start position. If no power there, check neutral switch and ign switch. You also need to check and verify 12v at the battery and that all connections are clean and secure at both ends of each cable.
