SOURCE: Difficulty to replace EGR valve in 1999 totyota camry 4-cyl automatic

If you have small hands it can be easy. The space between firewall and EGR is tight but it wasn't too difficult to remove. The vacuum hose at the bottom was hard to pull off and I ended up cracking it and had to splice it. It was more difficult to re-install the EGR then remove it. I had a difficult time with keeping the gasket aligned while bolting it in to the lower tube. I took a few attempts. I suggest when replacing the EGR leave the mounting bolts loose so you can more easily align the metal tube. I would tighten the metal tube at the bottom of EGR first then tighten the upper two mounting bolts on top. It took me about 5 minutes to remove and 15 minutes to replace. I would be sure to clean the IAC too after cleaning the EGR. I sprayed throttle bottle cleaner down the bottom hole located on the throttle body and let soak about 15 minutes then start and run the engine a minute and repeat the process. This helped smooth the idle while stopped at a light. It also stopped the idle from shaking and almost stalling the car out at a traffic stop when the engine was warm.

SOURCE: 2005 Golf TDI Diesel - EGR "Emissions workshop" fault light

Hi, The EGR valve itself is on a set of flexible pipework - usually stainless steel - which runs between the inlet manifold and the exhaust manifold. The EGR actuator valve is pneumatically / vacuum operated by a solenoid valve, controlled by the ECU ( aka the brane). It's not usual for the EGR valve itself to fail, more likely the solenoid valve or its electrical connector getting dirty. If you google for VAG TDI N75 valve you should get all the info you could possibly ever need :-)

Hope this helps, D.

I don't think that's the EGR valve that the shop is talking about for that kind of dollar figure. More likely the injectors or injector pump....accordianman

SOURCE: EGR Valve needs cleaning or replacing

The link below is a diagram of the EGR valve. Looks like a mushroom with vacuum lines attached.

http://www.chiltonlibrary.com/content/images/8666/images/86664018.gif

Instructions:

  • Label and disconnect the hoses from the valve. Carefully loosen and remove the retaining bolts, remembering that they are probably heat-seized and rusty. Use penetrating oil freely.
  • Remove the valve and clean the gasket remains from both mating surfaces.
  • Inspect the valve for any sign of carbon deposits or other cause of binding or sticking. The valve must close and seal properly; the pintle area may be cleaned with solvent to remove soot and carbon.

  • I hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

hmmm a bit odd there seems like the air to fuel mix isnt correct if the engine is losing HP rather then gaining performce as it should be with a turbo and EGR valve and airflow meter being placed in unless if not mistaking the airflow meter isnt reading the air flow correctly as it should

Why wouldnt my car start After removing and cleaning EGR valve?

If it's stuck open, it might not start.

Maybe something came disconnected during service. Carefully check all connectors in that area.

The check engine light of 2004 Toyota Rav 4 lights .The technician has used toolscan to identyfy the problem. It was diagnosed as EGR malfunction. The technician has cleaned the EGR valve .But the problem...

Most high-end scanners can activate the EGR. valve to see if it's working right. If it tests OK, then it may be a plugged port in the intake manifold which needs to be cleaned. The only reason to replace the tube would be either it's collapsed, blocked or corroded through.
If you do need a tube, you can order them direct from a Toyota Dealer, or from Toyota's Web site.

A code P0400 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

    • Faulty EGR solenoid
    • Faulty EGR solenoid wiring/harness
    • Vacuum lines damaged/disconnected to the EGR valve solenoid or to the EGR valve

Check engine light on-code says egr valve is bad

the egr system consists of control circuits as well as the egr valve itself. troubleshooting will have to be performed in order to pinpoint the fault. the valve may just need cleaning. there may be damage in the long run since the egr system introduces exhaust gas to the air intake to reduce combustion temperatures.

    RAV 96 VSV

    HI.....
The problem on your Vehicle related with the VSV.
    VSV . VACCUM SWITCH VALVE..

But the problem is you have 3 VSV On your car.
And all of 3 affect the Emission or smog TEST.

    1---- EGR VACCUM SWITCH VALVE
    2-- EVAP VACCUM SWITCH VALVE
3---- VAPOR PRESSURE SENSOR VACCUM SWITCH VALVE..

All are located on Left side of Engine compartment.
the EGR VSV on left side of the angine.

Are a Small selenoid with 2 small hoses and one connector of 2 wires.

Ok.. But I recomend get the Vehicle SCANNED for get the right codes.
You can go to some autoparts, Advance, Autozone, Napa, Pepboy's,
They scan your vehicle with no charge , is just a complementary service.
With the Codes you will FIX or REPLACE the right part.

OK... I hope this hlep on your problem.
If you need more information I will able to help.
