Question about Vauxhall Cars & Trucks
Using the original wiring and a new live wire. this can be used on the tow wiring loom located under the boot cover at the bottom. and a relay. wire the the new light up and place the earth wire on a good earthing point.use a wire from the reversing wire and connect to the relay switching side of the relay and use the live wire from loom for tow wire. also place a fuse on this wire 10amp will be fine. if you are using the 2nd reversing lights for a caravan etc don't use this live wire use a new wire. most wiring looms have a wire on to loom for reversing light. so check that first. it can handle 2 new lights at a maximum of 10w which is adequate for the new lights. as you have not said what year astra it is both of these should work fine. there is also a main live in the pass side rear side compartment used for electrical extras cd player etc there will be a plug with nothing connected to it. it is ignition control 25amp rating. so a 10amp fuse will be fine on this line.

The problem is in the loom in the steering wheel, it requires removal of the airbag and a new wheel loom to be fitted. The loom costs about £15.00 I think.

You can wire directly into the loom behind the left hand light unit.
The colours are L/H Indicator = Black White, R/H Indicator = Black/Green, Fog = Black/Blue, Brake = Black/Yellow, L/H Tail = Grey/Black, R/H Tail = Grey/Red, and Earth to be bolted to earth point here to.

SOURCE: how do you turn off
you should really have the car plugged into a diagnostic unit to find the cause of the light staying on.
if you remove the steering wheel carefully following the directions in the workshop manual, you will find a "cassette" with a conductive ribbon inside, to carry electrical signals from the steering wheel to the column. this ribbon often breaks on the vauxhalls and will result in the airbag light staying on.
9 out of 10 airbag faults on vauxhalls are cured by replacing this cassette. the light would then reset itself.
always remember that airbags are EXPLOSIVE devices and should not be handled without taking the safety precautions listed in the service manual. if you are not sure, get a competent mechanic to do the job
