Question about 1992 Chevrolet Camaro

2 Answers

Hello, I have a 1992 Camaro RS 25th Anniversary 5.0 V8 that I am having trouble starting after sitting quietly for about a year. I tried to start it with starting fuel and it cranks for a few seconds and as soon as the fluid burns out stops. I am hoping that this is an issue of a simple fuel filter change or can it be more?

If you Camaro has an electronic chip in you stared key , that I think is the problem , you need to take your car with your mechanic and take a part , at the end the steering column is a small Bering they need to change that Bering, the job is price to fix was $750.00, that's is the problem, happen to me and my mechanic change that Bering plus give me a new keys,. That little Bering is the one thing make the spark for the entire car can star. , he check my starter was right and after little willie he found it. The solution. I have same Camaro 92 V8 automatic.
i hope this information help you.

Well I would start by replacing the filter. But it could be debris in the gas tank too. Or a faulty fuel pump.

Hope that it's the filter - I've gone through 5 filters in one month on my 92 Camaro. Now I'm changing the fuel pump and the fuel tank. Not fun!

I have a 1992 Camaro (V8 - Automatic) and I have a problem with it starting. I have power when I put the key in, but when I go to turn the key over, nothing happens. I know that it is not the starter, the battery or the key with the chip in it. Plug and plug wires have been replaced, fuel pump has been replaced and no problems with the battery. I have disconnected the airbag to replace it and still have the same problems. No blown fuses either. I have tried pulling out of gear and back in to make sure that it is registering that it is in park.

I asked a mechanic a few years ago if he had heard of any problems like mine. He said yes. He said there is a wire that is disconnected somehow in the column.

It happens periodically and I have to wait for it to start... sometimes for days. I have tried moving the steering and all. It will not start. No one else has ever heard of this. Have you? Can you provide another solution to this problem?

SOURCE: I have 1992 RS Camaro 25th anniversary I replace

First off, some people hate to hear it but if it ran fine before you did this work, go back over what you did.

What fuel sensor and idle speed sonsor did you replace? Could you mean the IAC (Idle Air Control) and TPS (Throttle Posistion Sensor)? Both of these are adjustable. The Pridle in the IAC has to be measured and set to specific length and the TPS has to be set to a specific voltage with the throttle closed.

Now you could also have an EGR that is getting stuck open. The EGR is meant to open when the throttle os open AND at speed. If its got carbon build op causing it to not close all the way then it would die when you lift off the throttle.
