Question about Dodge Cars & Trucks

Open Question

The car is an 08 dodge Charger R/T. When driving and then letting off the gas to slow down for a stop sign or red light the tranny will shift hard and then get stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear. Tried to manually shift and it won't work. Hooked a high end scanner to it and there were no codes anywhere. This happened 4 times in the last week so it doesn't happen all the time. Anyone have any idea's what it could be?? Hoping it's just something simple.

forgot to mention that the tranny fluid levels are all good. The dealership checked that.

SOURCE: automatic transmission sounds like it stuck in 3rd gear

You need to check the transmission fluid level, if it is low the tranny will not shift. If, however, the fluid is to the proper level then you will need a new transmission.
Try putting new fluid in and look for a leak in the pan gasket, then all you may need is a transmission service. When the service is done the mechanic will look for pieces of metal in the old fluid, if found this is very bad and you will need a new tranny.
You might consider a new or used car, you can definately find a good deal out there!

SOURCE: Auto Transmission in 94 Chevy K1500 will not shift into 2nd gear

Hi, yes I just had the same problem and the clutch packs inside the transmission are slipping. I had to replace all the clutch packs as well as the bands. The parts for this job really aren't that expensive. you could get everything you need for less than 300 bucks. however labor is where they kill you. It's about a 10 hour job or maybe 12 depending on application. average shop rate 80 an hour you looking at 900 dollars labor plus parts. if your mechanically inclined and have tools you could take your time and do it yourself. you can buy a step by step DVD for your specific application. other wise I would call around to transmission shops. their is a slight chance it may also be your solenoid pack. the best way to confirm is to have a transmission line pressure test done. I hope this helps!

What causes 1996 Dodge Neon SOHC automatic transmission to delay or slip shifts?

that is a hum dinger, largest ever posted, in one shot.
very good.!
one word , the transmission slips. (never drive a slipping tranny)
overheat indicator.! that is key.
many newer cars will change the transmission shifting any time
the engine over heats.
and overheat wins over transmission , every time.
if the engine burns up, what good is any transmission.? nada.

solve overheat first.

slip or flare.
is when the engine RPM rises fast and the car dont go faster.
SLIPS.
and slipping burns up trannyclutchs and increases the damage. inside the transmission, dont do that. dont allow it,
park it and fix it.

on some tranny there is a temperature sensor that the TCM
watches and changes shift patterns based on AFT fluid temps.
and if the ATF fluid gets too hot , it takes actions. to keep the tranny from harm.

why not get a scan too and see what DTC errors there are..
DTC, engine overheate.
DTC< tranny overheat (caused by above)

2008 dodge ram downshifts hard when slowing down

I have a 1998 ram 1500. And sometines especially when its hot outside mine down shifts hard as I'm slowing down. And the gas pedal feels stiff. I press the gas down real fast and it unsticks but then when I come to the next light it does it again. If it's cold out dose it doesn't do it as much if at all. I heard it could be a throttle body sensor. Any advise?

Need some info on 68rfe. when i start the truck in the AM it shifts great but after driving thru the day it will shift hard from D to R/ R to D. Is this normal for this kind of tranny. First heavy duty...

Hmm, as a mechanic first i would try all of the simple things. After the tranny is good and warm, a half hour or more of driving check the fluid while the engine is running, if that is good why not change it with the filter. Never hurts anyways. Your fluid should be bright red almost pink not dark and smelly. Who knows maybe you have a shift kit in from the previous owner? let me know how the fluid looks i may be able to assist you more with more info!

MY 2005 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN TRANSMISSION CLUNKS AS YOU SLOW DOWN AND IT DOWN SHIFTS. IT DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE TIME AND THE VEHICLE HAS 65,000 MILES.

could be a sign of worned tranny regardless of miles and it depend on how hard the vehicle has been driven and pulling. some tranny has better luck than others and before jumping into any conclusion my advice is to take to transmission shop and have them drive the car and check it out, should not cost you anything. Amoco probably be a good place if you have one near by.

Tranny bum when slowdown at stop light

Sounds like a transmission tune up may help. Make sure the shop you take it to resets the values, this is called a quick learn at the dealer, even if worn fluid is the problem, without reseting the values the van will shift as it is for awhile.
Hope this helps, let me know how you make out...
Good Luck..
