SOURCE: Radiator Fan continuously running with engine off, discharging battery

It is not the fault: for long time Renault has that concept, that is to prevent engine oveheating when coolant circulation is suddenly stopped.

Radiator fan can continue to work up to 10 minutes after engine is off. You should worry about it only if it wouldn't stop even after 10 minutes.

SOURCE: Heat/AC Blower fan speed only works on High

Alot of people have the same problem with the fan switch and blown bulbs. There really is no fix for this. Jeep really screwed up when designing the heater control assembly. The cheapest solution is to buy another unit off Ebay. Can always go to the dealer but be ready to PAY for there mistakes.

Cooling Fan Temp Sensor is the First thing You Check (with what you have described) Cooling Fan Should ALways come On When The A/C is turned On as A/C Adds A Load to Engine, If Temp Sensor is Faulty it Will Not Give GROUND Signal to ECM >For COOLING FAN >RELAY to Give ground and turn ON The Fan.
There ARE 2 temp Sensors that Serve Different Purposes 1 is for Dash READING GAGE & Or TEMP LIGHT the Other is For ECM or Fan Relay (SAME Thing) you Said>""can disconnect the sensor and fan continues to run" < This Leads me to think you Changed the Wrong One. Not Questioning your Skills Just Here to Help.
TEMP SENSOR FOR 3.1L V6 is Located upper RH rear of engine compartment, near exhaust system. Temp SENSOR for 2.3L Engine is Located in LH rear of engine compartment.
I Hope this Helps Lead you to a NON-OVERHEATING Pontiac.

DTC P1258: Engine Coolant Overtemperature - Protection Mode Active.
This is something you need to take to a qualified repair shop .
The engine cooling fan system consists of 2 electrical cooling fans and 3 fan relays. The relays are arranged in a series/parallel configuration that allows the powertrain control module (PCM) or engine control module (ECM) to operate both fans together at low or high speeds. The cooling fans and fan relays receive battery positive voltage from the underhood junction block. The ground path is provided at G100.
During low speed operation, the PCM/ECM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the cooling fan 1 relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and supplies battery positive voltage from the cool fan 1 maxifuse® through the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the left cooling fan. The ground path for the left cooling fan is through the cooling fan relay and the right cooling fan. The result is a series circuit with both fans running at low speed.
During high speed operation, the PCM/ECM supplies the ground path for the cooling fan 1 relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. After a 3 second delay, the PCM/ECM supplies a ground path for the cooling fan 2 relay and the cooling fan relay through the high speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the cooling fan relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and provides a ground path for the left cooling fan. At the same time the cooling fan 2 relay coil is energized closing the relay contacts and provides battery positive voltage from the cool fan 2 maxifuse® on the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the right cooling fan. During high speed fan operation, both engine cooling fans have there own ground path. The result is a parallel circuit with both fans running at high speed.

I have 2007 Suzuki XL7. I replaced radiator and fan assembly. Fans do not work. Is there a relay? If so, where is it?


Most fan and Ac relays are located in the under hood fuse and relay box. Adequately marked in owners manual or on plastic cover

You are correct the high speed relay is bad. The cover to the fuse box and owners manual should tell you the location

Truck has recently begun to go straight into limp home mode immediately after starting. the cooling fan starts in high speed with no A/C running.


Make sure ac compressor clutch is not engaged even though ac switch is off. If clutch is turning compressor on due to stuck relay etc, ecm will turn on fan due to signal from pressure switch. You may need a scan tool to view scan data and determine source of fan issue

My ac is not working I have a Chevy Tahoe 2005 the fans won't turn on either .


Hi Maria , The A/C system wouldn't keep the fans from running but none working cooling fans will keep the A/C from working ! This is a fairly complex system if your not familiar with this sort of thing ! I will add the description from the factory service manual.
Cooling Fan Control - Two Fan System
The engine cooling fan system consists of 2 electrical cooling fans and 3 fan relays. The relays are arranged in a series/parallel configuration that allows the powertrain control module (PCM) to operate both fans together at low or high speeds. The cooling fans and fan relays receive battery positive voltage from the underhood fuse block.
During low speed operation, the PCM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. This energizes the low speed fan relay coil, closes the relay contacts, and supplies battery positive voltage from the low fan fuse through the cooling fan motor supply voltage circuit to the left cooling fan. The ground path for the left cooling fan is through the cooling fan s/p relay and the right cooling fan. The result is a series circuit with both fans running at low speed.
During high speed operation the PCM supplies the ground path for the low speed fan relay through the low speed cooling fan relay control circuit. Do you have a check engine light lit ? The thing to do would have it check at the dealer or a ASE certified repair facility ! They could hook up a advanced scan tool an diagnose fairly quick ! Or you could find a wiring diagram an try testing with a volt meter yourself ! But watch yourself so you don't short out the PCM - engine computer !

Why does my fan continue to run after car is shut off?


Which fan are you referring to? The pusher fan in front of the radiator is tied to the AC system. If it continues to run for an extended period after you turn off the key, then there is likely a problem with the relay. I think your model year has the 2 speed fan. Does the fan run at high speed or low speed when you turn off the car? Does it do it if the AC is off?

Overheats unless ac is running


The thermostat may be stuck. If it dosent open then the engine will overheat. If you turn the ac on then the air rushing around the engine will help cool it down. Replace the thermostat and it should fix it

Why mini cooper 03 overheats while the AC is on?


Check to see if the electric cooling fans are working. Some of the fans have 2 speeds and some need to operate on high speed constantly when the air is on. High speed could be a burnout.

There should be a temperature sensor, a fan Relay, and then the electric cooling fans.

At first the ac stopped cooling. then the car overheated with the ac off. there appears to be no loss of radiator coolant


Turn your engine on with the A/C on high. Watch your cooling fans mounted behind the radiator to make sure they are running. If they're not running, you have something wrong in the electrical side of the fan system. The cooling fans are essential for cooling as they pull air through the radiator when the vehicle is not moving fast enough to cool the coolant. The problem probably lies in a relay, so replace the high speed fan relay with one you know works but is not essential for moment (rear window defrost or something similar) and put that in the relay spot for the high speed fans. If the fans kick on now, you need to replace your relay and this will probably also fix your overheating.

either the temp sensor is bad but, it sounds like the fan relay is stuck.
replace the relay its in the fuse box.
