SOURCE: my nissan 1400 has excessive play in the gearlever

with someone in the car holding the gear as neutral as possible, you'll need to get under the car and look for the linkage cables connecting from the gearbox to the transmission and tighten up any slack

SOURCE: Can anyone advise, I have a 2002 1.9 citroen

sounds like an air leak on the suction side of the fuel system, does it have a primer pumb/rubber bulb ? if so give it a pump until it is "solid" and see if it starts and runs. The time it runs is what I would expect for the fuel in the pump to last for, on older Citroens with a plunger type primer on top of the filter the diaphram in the pump develops a leak with time and gave exactly this symptom.

SOURCE: Hi ive got a citroen dispatch van 1.6 hdi 07

you surprise me,these vehicles are bullet proof under normal circumstances and yes the syncros can wear out like any make of vehicle ,but this old grandad who passed his test in a viva with no syncro on first gear ,and passed his hgv on a vehicle with no syncros at all was taught to drive in a different era and rule one was neutral and handbrake on when stopped ,not holding it on a hill by slipping the clutch ,secondly to not put a vehicle in first gear whilst moving ,well it wouldnt go anyway ,double the clutch between gears so as to reduce the wear on the syncros and gears .not to ride the clutch between changing gears and also change down using double the clutch to save the brakes and stop vehicle slipping or skidding on a wet road ,not fly up to a roundabout ,slam on brakes force it into first gear at 30 mph then try to imitate evil kenival by going around on two wheels .This sort of driving will only damage the gearbox like syncros and clutches not lasting very long .

That is bad news & a bad head gasket

White Smoke is coolant in exhaust

Why would you ask if that is normal?

Is that what you see following other vehicles?

How do I replace the gearlever knob on a Citroen Picasso 1.6hdi;?

I had the same trouble with a Renault Megane. After reading on forums it turns out it only needs pulling upwards. Mine was well and truly stuck on but did eventually pull away. Citroen, Peugeot and Renault seem to share a lot of characteristics. If in doubt ask a citroen dealer and just persevere with it.

Citroen jumper gear change

Your description makes me remember an old Austin Metropolitan I had once. The gear linkage was crude and it was possible sometimes to engage two gears at once resulting in a lock-up and a stalled engine. It never happened while driving at speed.

When repairing a gearbox, once the selector linkage has been removed it is usual to select two gears in order to lock the shafts for the tightening or loosening of a retaining nut. There is built into the internal selector linkage an interlock to prevent two gears being selected.

I imagine that interlock in your gearbox is worn or broken...

Diagram gear linkage citroen relay

use engine oil from a oil can ,wd40 is no good for this ,if gears hard to get then check the gearbox level (EP90) also is the clutch clearing ok ,later models use a plastic carrier support for the thrust bearing and these melt causing the clutch not to clear properly making the gears hard to change
