SOURCE: Need torque specs for oil pan gasket

There likely is a spec for oil pan but unless you are a finatic, you really don't need to know what it is. Simple rule: Don't crank down ******* any fastener. If corners near crank ends have larger fasteners, you can tighten them a bit more than on siderails. Before tightening anything, install all bolts finger tight, to ensure that they are not cross threaded. To avoid warping pan, tighten from the center of the pan, working towards both ends, alternating from side to side as you go. When you are finished, go over it again, using the same amount of force on each bolt. As I said, end bolts can if larger in diameter, be tightened more but be careful not to tighten so much that you will either split or push the gasket out the sides.. Anywhere two gasket ends **** together, I recommend using a sensor -safe dab of silicone. An oil pan is not under any mechanical stress or pressure. I have used this method for many years and NEVER had one leak. If you really need #s, small fasteners get about 12-15in lbs, larger ones about 20.

2088 ford explorer 50,000 miles small spots of transmission fluid on driveway, is this going to be a huge transmission repair?

You could just have loose trans pan bolts or leaks at cooling line fittings. I don't have the Torque specs on hand for the trans bolts but you will need a smaller Torque Wrench rated in inch-lbs. rather than foot-lbs. for the small size these units use.

What you could try is a trans filter change/cleaning which is done by taking the trans pan off and servicing the trans filter. The pan would be reinstalled.

Now go to a shop which uses new pan gaskets because your old one may be leaking and may need to replaced anyway.

SOME FAST CHANGE OIL SERVICES OFFER TRANSMISSION FLUID SERVICES-BUT THEY WILL ONLY PUMP OUT THE OLD FLUID WITH A MACHINE AND WILL NOT REMOVE THE TRANS PAN. Your trans needs to be looked at for leaks and the above procedure will not fix your problem.

It is not impossible to have a tailshaft seal leak or shift solenoid covers leak, even a speedometer cable fitting can leak. A visual inspection will tell.

If you are careful, and find a leaking trans pan, tightening it up with a 1/4 inch drive Rachet is all you need in lieu of a Torque wrench. Can not emphasize enough not to reef on these tiny bolts.

Need to know what the torque spec is for my 1997 pontiac sunfire trans pan, 12 bolt pan. its a 4 speed auto.

HI, the torque spec for the pan bolts is 14nm or 124 in lb. snug them down evenly it doesn't take much to over tighten these and strip out the threads.

Torque specs for the trans pan bolts 1990 ford probe automatic?

The tightening is less torque, buyt rather gasket and pan squish.... barley gets tight, but too much and leaks happen.

Be certain to reform the pan bolt holes before you replace the pan.

So tightening happens evenly and stop just as the gasket shows deformation. This is after even tightening 2 or 3 steps....
