My 2000 mazda b2500 pickup tailgate won't stay closed

The tailgate on my 2000 mazda pickup will not stay closed (there is no damage), how do I adjust the latch?

SOURCE: Tailgate is stuck closed on a 2002 Ford F-150 Pickup truck.

You may have to pull the latch, the latches inside the tailgate got loose or the tailgate is bent inward take a sluge hammer and hit it on the oppisite side to make flush!

located in the passenger’s foot well,
behind the kick panel. There is an access hole.

SOURCE: Tailgate will not close and stay shut

there are bolts on the side of it and on the back and posiblly the bottom. take them out. just watch when you take out the ones in the middle of the back side your handel will fall out. take off that black cover.and you should be able to see inside of the tail gate.

SOURCE: where is the door switch? mine acts like the door isnt closeing and the interior light wont go off

I could not find this switch either, It is actually located in the door latch on the door jam. Switch is somewhere inside. Took my truck to mazda dealer and had it replaced. Anoying problem.

May not have being a mazda , remove the rocker cover and wind the cam shaft over by hand and see if all the valves close to the same level, if a valves bent it won, t come right up.

Is there any available insidewall cover of the tailgate of 1998 mazda B2500 pickup?


I'd check with a local used auto parts store (wrecking yard). You might have to buy the entire tailgate, but even that shouldn't be too expensive.
